Soo cute - lovely girls Redwing

MIL picked her chooks up yesterday, had the dilemma of 2-3, made the decision to go the 3 however, somehow has picked up 2 with another 2 due shortly  how did that happen, maths obviously not her strong point

Her maths is fine! It's CHICKEN maths - think of a number of chickens, add one, then find you have an extra from somewhere - and 'no idea' :anxious::liar: how it happened!

What lovely pekin chicks. KEEP THEM ! i love mine.

Here is a picture of my pekin chicks last week, when my hubby was putting the decking down.

They live in the dog crate on the left, next to the eglu. They will go in the eglu when they are older. They do go to bed with the big banties when they have been freeranging, they sleep on top of the cockerel  but we remove them and put them back in the crate. If you look between the eglu run and the crate you will see my three big girls lying there

They are gorgeous Tasha and look big enough to go outside. Hard to tell from the photos, but you might have two girls there.

I love pekins and always have at least one - their stroppy attitude makes me laugh, although they're always broody  If you're planning to hatch, then hang onto them - they make great mums.

Mostin.. I thought that 'acciental' chickens were always your fault? :?

How old are they redwing ? i had mine at 8 weeks and they could easily jump out of a box. Luckly we have spare dog crates.

I have no idea how old they are but they are pretty much feathered up so will be going outside at the weekend, thanks for confirming this Claret!

They look about 10 weeks to me Tasha, but it's hard to tell in the photos. Pekins tend to be late developers, so late to sex, but post some more photos and I'll have a go.

If you can put a gentle bird in with them, then they'll cuddle up to her at night.

Re their 'attitude', Phil refers to them as 'Pat Butcher with feathers'... that just about sums it up for me

They seem used to being handled so are nice and tame luckily, If I put my hand in tehir cage they lean against it :D I only have six week old chicks or a 16 week old female that I could put them with, the female is a sweetie (but destined for the table :( ) so I might try her with them

Thanks for your help, will take more pics :D

Sorry to keep butting into this post redwing. Mine are just over thirteen weeks Clare. Do you thing boys or girls ? Popcorn is the buff and I think girl. Pam cake (name from meet the parents) the silver partridge, i think girl too. Popcorn(buff) is the boss but Pam cake stands a little taller sometimes. No strut from either but Pam cake(silver) sometimes jumps if the big girls come near their run. Which some of my big banties (which i know are girls) did when they first met the big girls. What age does it become clearer with pekins ?
