Impulse Purchase! (Don't tell me off...) *pic added*

Recommended Posts

I went to a poultry auction today as I havent been well and didnt think I was strong enough to work in the garden.

I plan to get some hatching eggs in the future from there so went to see what the process was so I didn't feel intimidated when I did go to buy

I have two pekin chicks in my kitchen, I don't know how they got there :anxious:

Personally? I am blaming Mostin :D

What auction did you go to Redwing as I would like to go to one at some time?

My neighbour went to Peterborough show and bought some fab chickens...cant remember what they were but really good looking..it was a bit of a free for all apparently you had to find the breeders and negotiate!

Am interested for another time

thanks indie

Here they are: Smurf and Sky

They have black marks on their faces and so I think they are a breeders rejects bless em :(

Their home is a very temporary one I knocked up out of a plastic crate, they will move out of this in the next day or so

It was Melton Mobray auction in Leicestershire

Salisbury auction is the daddy of poultry auctions though

Fee - I have no idea what age or sex they are (how bad is that?) I am keeping them indoors but off heat to see which way to play it  my ruffians in the big indoor cage are off heat now so I have a heat lamp I can use but these Pekins look pretty well feathered

Yes, I doubt they'll need heat if they're that feathered up. I'll see how I get on with the Mottled (hopefully a girlie or two), like the look of the Lavendar though. It's just strange having such tiny chicks and chickens when I'm used to biggies :D

Yes, its strange isnt it? they are diddy! I won't be keeping them, my plan is to rear them and sell them on, my OH has since arrived home and is smitten with them though so we may have a problem

They are lovely!, I was going to call my Bluebelle 'Smurf' for a long time 9I knew I was getting one) until son fractured his cheekbone and ended up pulling the sympathy 'I have to pic AND name these new chook'

ooooh I didn't know they had the auctions on saturdays thought it was only tuesdays! hmmmm might have to go sometime, the chicks look so lovely! :)

They are the first and third Saturdays in the month - less stock on a Saturday and higher prices apparently too (I blame these hobby keepers myself :lol::lol: )

How was it my fault :angel: . I have never brought up the subject of auctions, or getting possible broody hens for future fertile eggs :angel: .

However, your new babies are adorable, and I am quite happy to take responsibility for their arrival :lol: .
