We're all planning walk in runs! PART 2!

Recommended Posts

I agree :) . Gives you more space and saves all that bending down  .

And means you can squeeze in an introduction pen too, doesn`t it ANH! :D

Also...remember all you WIR builders and planners! Step by Step pictures are required!

We want to see slabs layed, wood sawn and all those bruised fingers from where your hammer missed that nail! :D And of course the finished article with hens installed! :D

Im going to start mine this weekend, im working on,

3.5M X 1.7M RUN

Mesh £32

wood £70

Screws, and fixings £15

roof £30

total£147

hope that helps

Add an extra £60 for gutter downpipe and water butt

 that seems really cheap, how much wood and mesh? and where from at that price ?

just priced mine up at wickes's £200 + for the timber alone, mines gonna be approx 15' x 6' x 6' and i reckon i need approx 230metres of timber and 36meteres of mesh.

needless to say i wont be getting it from there, too much wastage as well, no good getting it in lengths of 2.4m

Yours is going to be about the same size as the one I built, give or take. Do you have a timber merchants near you? I had the same problem with wickes that I needed lengths of 6' and 3' and they only did 8' lengths so there would have been loads of wastage. In the end I got all the wood from a timber merchants, which worked out abut a 1/3 cheaper with delivery, and it came in 12' lengths which was perfect.

I had a friend use these for timber, and he seemed pleased with the price and delivery:

Tool Station are reasonable for screws and fixings etc - cheaper than Wickes. Especially for the corrugated roofing screws (about half the price).

If you're having a roof on do you need to mesh it too? That might save you 9 metres or so of mesh, then you might get away with one 25m roll from Hills of Devon.

a pal of mine is gonna price it up for me from MKM Buiding supplies. he has an account with them so he will get a lot better price than me, dont know wether they do the wire mesh though ?

i have over estimated the amount of timber i need as well, ive more or less finished the drawings for the panels and ive added 15% for cuts/wastage and it comes to just under 180 metres of timber and 37 metres of mesh, i would rather have the roof meshed as well, didnt realise hills did freee shipping though,

i also want to add a quail run along the front but im not sure what size to do it, was thinking approx 1800mm x 600mm x 600mm will need more timber and mesh for that as well.

just gave Arnold Lavers a ring,

180m £93.15 + delivery (£10+vat) total £104.65 in 3.6m lengths which should be ideal, also said if i order over 200m delivery is free :D

asked if i wanted sawn ? i said yes, is that right? the timber on a4u's runs looks smooth ?

anyway i thought thats a good price so i will wait and see what price my pal gives me.

exact size of run 3.2m long x 1.4m deep by 1.8 meters high.

Spent 2 hours this morning on it and just got the door to build and the mesh to put on :D

you want pre treated sawn timber, keep an eye out theough as some of mine has warped badly, its a right pain to use so ive tried using the warped ones where they wont be as hard to work with, got my wood 4x2 in 4.8m lengths, anxious drive back with them on the roof rack though, also brought some 6x1 gravel boards to go around the bottom. Think the 4x2 wood was £7.88 a length and brought 4 lengths.

Oh em im actually thinking of going down the horse bedding route on the floor instead of soil and bark, where do you get yours from?

Horse bedding is great!

I go to the feed place in Great Staughton, I can give you directions if you don`t know where it is. They do Aubiose and others too.

When you came over I had Bedmax shavings down but I am going back to Aubiose as it soaks up the poo so it almost disapears. The new bale is sitting in the shed and I am itching to start using it.
