What gorgeous little chicks! I love Silkies and have two.

Muggle (Cuckoo Silkie) is currently in the middle of a massive moult. It looks like carnage in the run, and I'm collecting up loads of fluffy feathers daily! She's at that "partially plucked" stage but at least she now has new feathers poking through the skin. DD can't bear to look at her ATM.

What lovely chicks. Lovely pictures. It's nice that you got to enjoy them on a sundy day like today. I never got to enjoy mine till about 6.30pm today because We had our son's 6th birthday party at the wacky then went straight to stratford upon avon to spend the rest of the day. I was worring all day if they had enough water but they did. :D

I haven't named any of them I'm afraid.

Cuckoo silky? Very pretty!! Where is she from?

I got her from The Wernlas Collection. Here's a recent pic of her pre-moult.

I also have a Partridge Silkie from them too. Her party piece is that she quacks like a duck!

I absolutely adore silkies. How cute. I've heard they aren't very hardy and need special care - is this true?

I've had mine for well over a year. One of mine was ill and had antibiotics last year (just the once - she's fighting fit usually), but the other one is tough as old boots. She just goes broody instead.

I think the main thing is to keep them somewhere where they don't get rained on as their feathers aren't water-resistant like "normal" chickens. I have a roofed walk in run, so no problems. I love my Silkies. They are definitely my favourites of my girls, with Muggle just pipping Squib to top spot. :D

BTW apologies to nutterly_uts for hijacking your thread to extol the virtues of Silkies.
