I've got two new girls today,new pics*update

Recommended Posts

I phoned my breeder this morning and he said that hes sure that they are pullets. But said to bring them back at 6 weeks and he will change them if they are not including the one that I hatched myself. My two new girls do look a little different to the one that I hatched.

Yes, I agree - I hatched a cream legbar last year - they look like bumble bees - very definite stripes if they're girls. I'd take them back before you get too attatched - and before the breeder changes his mind - if he's any good at all he would quite clearly have known they were boys - I hope he wasn't trying to pull a fast one on you

If they are pure bred, they are most definately boys i'm afraid, I breed CCLB's and the boys are always pale, the girls have well defined stripes. I would be inclined to swap them now before you get attached to them and the breeder changes their mind. x

I called a nice gentle man yesterday that is high up in the poultry world and I described my boy hatch and two new girls and he thought girls. He said some strains of legbar the girls can be paler and have small yellow spot on head. I also had a private message from someone who hatches cream legbars and she said that some of hers have been hard to sex (paler, yellow spot ect..) and she had a photo of a girl chick which looks like mine too. I wish people could see them in person as the two new ones are very different to my boy hatch.

Hi Claire, just found this thread with your pics.....I must say I think they're both boys now that I've seen them . Although the girl in my pic that you found was paler and had a yellow head spot she still had a dark eye line and defined stripe on her back....I'll try and post some more pics shortly.

These are poorly bred CL's.....top left is a girl (with breathing difficulties that died), the other 3 are boys showing all different colours. The pale chick with yellow head spot is most typical of a CL boy, but the grey/black and red one's are just wrong.

They are adorable but what are you going to do now as they seem to be boys (I am again amazed at the wealth of knowledge on this forum).

I've decided to wait till they are 6 weeks old like the breeder asked me to, as he will swap the cream legbar boy that I hatched too.

I will keep you all posted. Thank you for everyones support. This has been one big head ache. :(
