how suitible would this space be

Recommended Posts

in order for this post to work i need to show you some photos, fingers crossed they upload ok........

i am new to keeping chickens and i am looking for some advice as to wheather this is a suitible space for an eglu, the chickens will be allowed to be roam free some of the time, however we do have a fox which comes in to the garden at night so i am very wary of letting them out all the time :(

the space is at the end of our garden, its fairly shaded by trees, however some of the small shrubs will be removed before the chickens arrive. the reasons for the choice of area is that my young son loves the free run of the garden, he loves kicking a football and i want to keep the chickens out of his way, also my husband loves his lawn and so i want keep him happy too

ive been down there today clearing some of the toys and leaves and its not all that warm is this is a problem? how much sun should the chicken house be in?

in terms of ground space the gravel area is about 11ft by 12ft

any thoughts? do you think this would work?

here is the photo link........

I think it looks perfect. Lots of bushes for them to rootle about in, gravel rather than grass (which they would just eat  ) and a bench to sit and gossip on  . (You could contain them in that area using Omlet or some other netting so your son doesn't get poop all over his feet and football and your OH's lawn is left in peace  .)

good to see so many positive responses, i think someone asked when we are getting the chickens and the eglu, well i am trying to get my hands on a second hand one through ebay. there are a few on there at the moment which are near me so hopefully soon! although there is no rush (well there is but i am trying to be patient)

thanks again xx
