jlo
...Race for Life this Sunday in Basingstoke. I have been thinking that I have ages to train for it and goodness only knows how I am going to wobble round! DD has informed me that she will come with me but will be walking as she just doesn't see the point of running unless it is on a football or cricket field or a tennis court. I know that when she gets out there she will jog along - I just hope she doesn't show me up too much! Good Luck to all the other Racers for Life and please wish me good luck for Sunday. I will need it!

Valkyrie
I agree, good luck to anyone going and you all deserve nice weather - not too hot for running, and not too wet.
jlo
Well - I survived! Just under 30 minutes which is not great but, in my current state of fitness, I was reasonably happy with it. The weather was fine - sunny and cloudy in equal measure. It took me a while to get through the starting post. I always feel like a Grumpy Old Woman at these things though which is highly inappropriate in the circumstances. They NEVER start on time so we are hanging around for aeons. Then they make it quite clear that they want runners at the front, followed by joggers and then walkers - that makes sense to me so I go towards the back of the runners and at the front of the joggers. However, even within the first hundred metres I have to overtake women holding their toddlers' hands who have gone in the first group but are walking quite slowlyand taking up over half of the available space. If nothing else, it can be dangerous for the wee ones who can easily get knocked over when there are 4,000+ women doing the event. It is also slightly ironic that a cancer charity chooses to do a run at 11 am when we are constantly being told that it is best to stay out of the sun at that time. Personally, I preferred it in Basingstoke when they used to hold it on a weekday eveing but I am sure that there has been a good reason for the change. All that aside, it is a great and worthwhile event and one that I have done since it started in Basingstoke about ten years or so ago. I don't bother asking anyone for sponsorship anymore as so many people do it and I am terrible at asking for money. That reminds me - I must go and put a donation on my page!! Good Luck to all the rest who are going to be taking part and I apologise again for my grumpiness! Edited June 21, 2009 by Guest

(Hey - same initials as a certain chook!) There is no way on this earth that I could even contemplate that! I had to edit this so that I didn't get a picture of a gingernut ranger in the post!!
