This drives me potty !

 

I thought I would be polite before getting my hens and speak to my closest neighbours - they were both fine and one even offered to look after them when we went on holiday, but now this same neighbour, although polite - said she heard them the other evening, the time being only 7pm at night and that was when we were giving them the corn !

We introduced her to them and she just looked at them as if they were vermin ! I'm just hoping that when we get some eggs she will be happy.

 

They were alittle alarmed by our cat this afternoon, clucked abit louder than usual, but I just keep telling myself that a dog barking all the time would be worse...

 

But why o why are people so funny about it !

Miserable beggars! Like you say, no worse than a dog barking all the time. A neighbour has a cockerel 3 doors up and I love the noise. I don't know how the immediate neighbours feel about it.

 

Our hens are noisy in the morning, but not for long and you can't hear them if the windows are shut.

 

Try not to be too concerned, they will get over it.

How can anyone complain about any kind of noise at 7pm?!! Besides, most hen noises are lovely and bring the garden alive with natural sounds. She sounds like a misery-guts I agree that the eggs may help bring her around to the idea. My neighbour who wasn't too keen on the idea of hens beforeI got them popped over yesterday so his grandson could meet them and even he described one of them as 'pretty'. Please don't let her dampen your enjoyment - I'm sure she'll come around.

I'm sure your neighbour will come round in the end. Gentle clucking is fine in my opinion.

 

The odd sqwark when they see something scary or new is OK too. Your hens will soon get used to your cat. My lot ignore all the cats, magpies, doves in the garden. But they are not keen on next door's window cleaner when he's up a ladder (probably think he's some huge predator.... ).

Dont worry about it just tell them where to go. Was working round my grandads earlier sorting his radiators out and to be fair had to be noisy, this was 8am, his neighbour comes out at 1pm saying 'you woke us up today, we dont get up till 12' some people

Some people can be soooo annoying. I think it's down to the fact that they are flipping well jealous that we have these fantastic animals in our very own gardens. They aren't the 'every day' kind of pet so people think it's bizarre.

 

My neighbour to the right of me was a little funny about it but I can't wait to gloat when we show her my first batch of eggs. I did promise my neighbours some eggs so if they are still a little funny about it all then I'm sure they will be converted when they see the fresh eggs on their doorstep.

my girls were making a racket at 4,20 am this morning, I had to go out and give them some corn to shut them up. Thankfully this has only happened 3 times this summer and this was by far the earliest, I had started to close them in again after the second time , but Its far to hot to do that just now.

No, they'll be fine - opinions vary on door closed/door open and there have been lots of debates about this.

 

The Eglu/Cube are ventilated and insulated so the chooks will be ok with the door closed. I leave mine open all year round because I can't always be there to let them in and out.

 

Back on topic ... some people are scared of birds, chickens in particular. They will probably be ok with them once they get used to the idea and realise they're not noisy or smelly and that they are not going to cause problems or come into their garden.

Ditto - this happened to us this morning at 04:30 but we didn't hear it, the lodger did. He took it upon himself to go and open the run door to let them free-range - and then he went back to bed!! I came down at 06:00 to find them all in garden He knows that we only let them free-range when we are downstairs at the back of the house so we can keep an eye on them and intervene if we need to. There could have been foxes around for heavens sake!! I'm gonna give him a pack of earplugs and a strong telling off later

Mine only tend to make a noise if there is a queue for the nest box in the morning, this only happens on odd occasions and fortunately our nearest neighbour sleeps at the front of his house and is an early riser.

Oh dear - I should definitely give her some eggs when you get some. I can't see how she can complain about any noise at that time though.

 

One of mine was making a right racket at 4.55 this morning I'm thinking about shutting the door tonight - I don't want any complaints from my neighbours

I my neighbours 2 doors down, everything annoys them

And I have a girly chicken, but she crows at least once everyday and they haven't actually said anything!

I did bribe them with some eggs though even though they're tiny eggs they loved them

So once they are laying I'm sure everything will be fine

i'm really lucky....my neighbours love the chickens, we've even been featured in our local paper!!!! my girls can be noisy and are early risers, fortunatley my neighbours need to be up early for work so they dont mind.....i just need to teach the girls what a sunday is for

i also supply most of the street with eggs and the neighbours kids are all in love with the chicks so if the grown ups do moan the children soon put them to rights!!!!!
