New ex batty girls arrived PICS ADDED

Recommended Posts

Well, late this afternoon I collected my new girls from a lovely lady called Debbie who is the co-ordinater for Hen Rehomers or Little Hen Rescue (I've forgotten which).

We had a lovely chat, and she was telling me that this lot of girlies were the last ones out of the battery farm in Norfolk - THE LAST ONES !!! All 10,000 have been rescued :dance: !!! These girls came out last weekend so are passed the 'shocked and stunned' stage.

Here they are hiding in the eglu.

I brought home the two smallest and baldest (they seem SO tiny), one with a torn nail (who was sitting on Debbies lap with a plaster round her toe) and a larger, quite well feathered one. I put them straight in the eglu, only two ventured out into the run this evening, one even managed to jump up onto the perch in the run.

I'll try and get some more pictures of them tomorrow.

Ah lovely, enjoy. I am totally in love with my ex batt chickens :).

Though today I realised how fussy they are getting, they would not get back in the run tonight for boring old corn or meal worms!!! No it had to be something much more substantial like half a lettuce and some soggy bread before they would even contemplate going back in. They have only been out of the factory six weeks and I love how they have found their feet.

I had to shove them out of the eglu this morning and shut the door behind them as they wouldn't budge  , but now they are out they have been scratching about and enjoying themselves.

So here they are

and a little video of them not doing much, but they look sweet (I hope it works - I've not put a vid. on before)

The limping girl is the one with the torn nail. I took her plaster off this morning and the toe/nail looks OK but it must be a bit sore still.

Hope you like.

I had to show you this.....

This is smallest and baldest of them, and she is half the size of Dora. I love the way she stands on the glug to gain some height

Oh, and don't worry about the dog, little chickie was at no risk of getting her few remaining feathers pulled out. Freda loves the chooks and her favourite trick is to follow them about and when they stand still she nudges them up the bum so they tip forward
