Guest
Ri2K and Tula are just Radley cheaper versions. There are Tula shops in the outlet malls that sell all of the brands and are great for some Radley bargains - as is the Radly website and mailing list. I want a Mulberry bag - but actualy don't like any of them - when they do one I like I wil get it. I think the Kipling bags are about 10 times the price they should be (Sorry!), seen so many bags just like that on the market for a tenner! Which really shows how much it is each to their own. I return over and over to my fave red Radley - using it again at the moment and it NEVER sits on the floor/ground and I was being rather precious in the pub this afternoon when I was moving it out of the sun!!! Cinnamon
About £100 on a very nice Kipling bag I had to have. I only really do Kiplings & have about 8 of them now,all in different colours, all with matching purses. My favourite everyday one is called 'Defea' & I have it in hot pink for everday, turquoise for holidays & black for funerals. The re-sell value of them is very good on ebay,so when I get bored I sell them on (& usually buy another ) funny becuase I ahve been looking at these myself and would love one, so I am keeping my eyes open for the right one at right price at the moment. Look on Ebay - I have got several from there I think the Kipling bags are about 10 times the price they should be (Sorry!), seen so many bags just like that on the market for a tenner! Which really shows how much it is each to their own. I love them - they are so well made, have so many great little pockets & things, come in brill colours & are machine washable too There is no comparison to cheap market bags, especially when you look at the quality of the zippers & things. And they are lined in light coloured stuff so you can easily see inside, which is a real bonus. I don't really like leather bags, & would much rather have something light & practical. Like you say, each to their own!
*mummy_hen*
I love Louis Vuitton and spent just over £400 on a bag in Harrods a few years ago....could have easily spent a lot more!! The stupid thing is, i replaced my old Louis purse the year after during another trip to Harrods and the new purse cost nearly as much as the bag I think that sometimes you deserve a special treat and if you know you will get good use out of it then it will be worth the expense. feemcg
I love my Kipling bags.......and they make some gorgeous leather ones too.....I love looking at their website. They are so well made and last for years, unlike cheaper imitations that fall to bits after a few months. I certainly don't think £250 is a 'moderately priced bag'.....it's quite expensive.....for most people!
Guest
I still think it's moderately priced when the designer ones are 2 or even 10 times as much! I just don't do cheap - I like good stuff cheap! Half price shoes rather than cut price - I was in Matalan today and the shoes looked good - from a distance but up close they just look rather shoddy (I have NO idea why I was even looking as we had gone in to return a pair of cheap shoes we bought to last james just 5 weeks until the end of term and they are falling apart after 3 weeks!) Of course being frugal also meant I hadn't bought a pair of beautiful pink platforms in Debenhams sale - because they were only a tenner off!!! Olly
Some years ago when my parents were alive, we applied for and succeeded in getting Disability Living Allowance for my dad, and as it was backdated he got a smallish lump sum payment. He rightly said that it really belonged to my mum, who looked after him, and she should buy herself something, so I took her handbag-shopping. She had very specific requirements - a shoulder strap, a pocket for her chequebook, somewhere to keep keys so she could find them, somewhere for her cigarettes - we all have these sort of personal lists, no doubt! Eventually we found a lovely soft black leather Tula bag for about £75, a lot of money for my mum to spend but she was thrilled with it. My sister went postal when she heard ... blamed ME for 'letting' her spend all that much on a bag ... (my mother was perfectly compos mentis, I just drove her to the shop!) ... kept saying that you could get a really nice (plastic) handbag in Marks & Spencers for £20 ... she even went so far as to say 'what's the point, she hardly ever goes out ..'! This caused me and my mum huge amusement, I'm glad to say! She just couldn't understand why it mattered so much to our mother to have the right handbag. It just goes to show that handbags are a very personal thing, and for every woman who is happy to use a bargain bag, there's another who relishes the feel, smell and look of a lovely posh one. I inherited my mums bag, it's now quite old and worn but I still use it sometimes and think of her. So there you go - think of your handbags as an heirloom! Charlottechicken
I just don't do cheap - I like good stuff cheap! Half price shoes rather than cut price I just bought a lovely pair of Dr Martens Buena sandals from Amazon. Free delivery, only £25, Dr Martens price - £70. I got the grey, really comfy and I can drive in them I now stick to Clarks, Dr Martens and Hush Puppies in shoes (although the latest Hush Puppies appear to be made out of firmer leather ), but have had a lovely pair of brown wedge sandals for just £6.49 from Deichmann, they are soooo comfy and they don't rub

Yolky
For a designer bag it is actually cheap. I have been looking round lots of sites over the weekend and most of the designer bags seem to be nearer the grand mark
emily95
Ali, If you're still thinking about the bag, and you still really want it, then I'd say get it. It's a gorgeous bag, and you say you'll use it all the time - it sounds perfect! Emily xxx
Cooks
I have actually won a Kipling bag tonight on Ebay, I am very happy as I had entered in an amount and was told I was still outbid and somehow I am now the winner but as I wanted the bag I am not worried It's the messenger style one which I really like, complete with Mandy the Monkey
Willow
Hi Ali, I went back to this thread as I needed a new handbag and remembered there were lots of good suggestions here. Re-reading I realised you didn't say whether you got your bag. So did you treat yourself ? (I hope you did) Patricia

Sam Palmer
The most I've spent was £50, as it was a Christmas present. But I'm on a uni course at the moment and we were admiring one of the others bags the other day and it turned out to be a £600 Dior!

Sam Palmer
We're on a post-grad course. She just likes to spend all her money on expensive fashion and bags!
docsquid
Oh dear, I'm a bit out of place here! I think I gave up buying handbags when I had to spend more than £9.99 on them, but that was a long time ago. I just use a rucksack now. When we go out, DH puts my lipstick in his jacket pocket, but we're so busy with the woods and chickens we rarely go out anywhere that requires dressing up. Lozmk1
*hangs head in shame* i am a handbag and sunglasses fiend i wear a lot of plain stuff for work and its all cheap supermarket clobber cos it gets ruined (i work in a car bodyshop) but i love nothing more than grabbing my vivenne westwood handbag (s) and plonking on some designer shades at the end of a day (albeit not at this time of year for the shades! lol) i think nothing of splashing out once or twice a year for a truly gorgeous handbag, seeing as i dont spend much on my clothes! i wear head to toe black most of the time but VW is my weakness, i cant stand fake anything and counterfeit handbags really get my goat, i deffo think you should treat yourself to whatever you like once in a while! its good for the soul! lol hope you got your handbag in the end hun xx
Laura & CTB
Oooh I'm the same opinion as you Lozmk1 - I spend all day in jeans and work boots so love to dress up when I get the chance. I have only 3 bags, 2 of which I've had for years but still love as much as the day I bought them. I have a plain Prada bag good for popping up town with, a LV clutch for evenings and a Paddington that I use every day. And I have my Gucci shades too. It's nice to splash out now and again
pistachio
My favourite bags ever cost £15 (a vintage pistachio green silk beaded victorian evening bag from Oxfam) and £40 (a brown suede sack in a House of Fraser Sale) and a Niki bag for about £45 (big blue fake leather one with a flower tag and pretty lining) and one I handmade in the sixth form out of patches of my favourite fabrics. I've seen gorgeous ones for hundreds and thousands and some of them are exquisite and some ordinary. I don't rule out spending a fortune on a bag - i just usually manage to find one I love for a lot less.
Suzy
I really want a purple mulberry bag at the moment Handbags ...I love them! Emma.x I have that one.... and I am not going to tell you all how much I spend on handbags, but that purple bayswater is worth every single penny. Just about to take it out now for a meeting! People stop me to ask if they can stroke it...... seriously.... And, it's the same colour as the eglu..... I hope you get your bag - it looks gorgeous.
