I washed the sofa cover today. BIG mistake. I've spent the last 2 hours trying to put it back on and it just WON'T strech back on. My nails are broken, my fingertips and knuckles raw. it hurts to type this....

Anyone have any tips? PLEASE?

Did you wash it at too high a temp? Have you tumble dryed it? Is it completly bone dry? If yes to any or all of these three then I am afraid you've shrunk the cover If I was in your situation, I'd wash it again, on a low 30 degree wash and then hang it up until it was almost dry and then put it on the sofa and then it should have a bit of give in it so you can pull it on. Having said that, I have a loose cover and I have to cover the back of the sofa you can see as since washing it the very first time I have never been able to join the two velcro strips Loose covers; although immensly practical, I have lost so many of my nails to them. And I don't have particularly long nails. Good Luck!

I washed it at 40 - was that too hot? I line dried it for a short time - it's still a little damp. I could cry - it was SO expensive.

It should have been okay Did it say on the cover you could machine wash it as some fabrics can only be specialist cleaned.

Oh no how awful. I hope they haven't shrunk, if they have , have you any come back with the manufacturers? I have just ordered some loose covers from a well known company (P*****) and in view of your predicament I will contact them to double check that mine are definately machine washable.

We had a sofa with machine washable covers which I only washed at 30 degrees and they never quite fitted right again.

 

Hope you manage to get it back on maybe you need to get some help these jobs are usually easier with 2 people and sometimes it can be a case of getting one bit in the right place and the rest will follow.

I put mine on damp straight out of the washing machine. Goes on every time but it is a job done better with two of you.

I do mine on the handwash cycle and dry until slightly damp, then pop it back on. Works like a dream every time.

Hurraahh Husband managed it with his big hands I won't try that on my own again.... I managed to tear a small hole in a seam - doesn't show just annoying At least it's on!

Well done! Mine are a bit snug to get back on too - we ended up doing it when they were damp, with two people. Impossible with one on our corner sofa.
