Chook n Boo Mum
Buffie has 3 lovely babies which are very healthy in the lung department & will have her on her toes as they are so lively!! 2 of the other eggs have pipped and had yesterday morning, as can be seen here , but they don't seem to have got any further...can I do anything to help or simply leave them to nature. One of the pipped ones looks as though it has been sat on rather hard & the shell has broken too..... Buffie is sitting in the run with the Bufflings & they are in the eglu. I need to go in & clean up the rather explosive poo she did down the side of the eglu earlier, but don't want to disturb them if there's a chance for them . The Dogmother
Can you see if the chicks inside the eggs are alive Sha? If they are, then wrap each egg in a warm damp towel or flannel for a couple of minutes to dampen the shell and help them out. Otherwise, leave to their own devices, hard though it is. Chook n Boo Mum
I'm not sure, I'll go back up & have a closer look, I think they may be beyond my help, but having pipped over 24 hours ago I feel I have to help if I can..... I haven't picked them up for a close look yet as I didn't want to put Buffie off, although she's let me hold the babies & is being such a good girl!!) teri
congratulations on your i'm afraid i dn't know enough to advise you about the remaining few. only that it can take a very long time for them to hatch fully after they have pipped..sometimes a whole day. you should be able to see movement through the pipped hole the chick will then breathe through this hole and build up enough strength for its final escape. i'd keep my eye on them for a while longer they have donr the hardest bit good luck hopefully someone else can give you better advice/reasurance keep us posted x
Redwing
They pip and unzip as I call it You get the little hole first that gets larger then they work their way around the egg making a crack so maybe thats why one is cracked it could be normal The warm damp flannel is a good idea as that will dampen the shell and membrane One of mine took ages and ages to hatch while his sibling and friends hatched around him so there is hope yet
Chook n Boo Mum
Unfortunately there isn't.......... they were both quite dry and starting to smell a little when I wrapped them in a warm flannel, I wish I had had a closer look earlier today or late yesterday, maybe then we would have had two more little Bufflings It was fascinating to see how tightly they were tucked into their shells though...DD was standing over me as I was easing the shell off & we had a chat about Mother Nature knowing best & there was possibly some weakness in the chicks which meant they weren't strong enough to survive the outside world. I assume the other egg is unviable too as Buffie has left it altogether now & is concentrating on the 3 little monsters who have upended their food pot already RIP little ones............ Chook n Boo Mum
We will, and actually in a way it's just as well we only got 3, as now I don't have to fret so much about over crowding as they get bigger................also I may just be allowed to keep them all if they turn out to be girlies Sha x

Chook n Boo Mum
I realised yesterday that I now have 13 chooks...this is bad luck, therefore I must go and get another 2 at the earliest opportunity....and another eglu as I don't have any more separate housing for intros................ Falkor
Yes I agree Sha! You wouldn`t want to bring back luck would you! I insist that you go out get some Pekins! I am in LOVE with my banties!
Chook n Boo Mum
I've found an eglu on Ebay in Bournemouth (about 1.5 hours away!!), which has no bids on yet, may make her an offer in cash for collection today/tomorrow - with a new baby she may just accept - if DH agrees when he gets up.....I've been up since 6 as I have a bite on my ankle from the children's campsite which was driving me bananas, so I got up, de-pooed Buffie & the bufflings and came on here for a mooch...am about to take him a cuppa & try to butter him up.........fingers crossed please Sha x

Chook n Boo Mum
I'm still at my current level of houses & 13 chooks, I'm watching the one in Bournemouth as no less than 3 eglus have come up within 30 miles of me in the past couple of days....none within a 2 hour drive for months, then 3 within less than an hour pop up in the space of a few days...amazing!! Sophie, did you say you have a rablu base spare...as you know DD is after a couple of guinea pigs & rarely do the rablus come up near us...if I had a rablu base I could swap into an eglu, I could use the eglu for newbies intros....... then piggies ......devious, moi...not at all I'm planning to get my eglu to multi-task Sha x

Sadly no, it's a spare eglu base that I have (red tray) It came with a set of 3 grubs and a glug all for £10 on ebay! I thought the glug and grubs were a bargain even without the base. I've kept it just in case a bargain rablu should come up and I could swap the base Actually an eglu came up recently with a damaged base and I was tempted to bid for it but in the end it went for more than I paid for my original eglu
