Getting song lyrics wrong

Recommended Posts

I am constantly told off by the kids for singing loudly when they have the radio on in the car. i also get told off for getting the lyrics wrong. The new one by Sophie Ellis Bextor - has a line "heartbreak makes me a dancer dancer" - much to the kids horror I was singing " heartbreak get me a doctor doctor" (makes perfect sense to me) the kids listen to Capital in the car and believe me you hear us before you see us, windows open and music blaring and mum singing along :shameonu::whistle::whistle: Scramble did say on another thread that I was obvioulsy a cool mom - ahem - dont think my two would agree. Mum has com out with some right howlers - never been allowed to forget them. Just wondered what howlers other omletters have sung.

For years and years I used to sing along to the song 'Aint nothing goin' on but the rent' but instead of singing-you've gotta have a J-O-B if you wanna be with me, I sang- You've gotta have a gay ol' flee if you wanna be with me.

No idea why I thought she said gay ol' flee or indeed what a gay ol' flee is but it was when I was about 16 or 17 that my Mum heard me and I've never lived it down since

I heard that song again just a few weeks ago and only then realised that it was "J O B":lol: .

I'm not entirely sure what I thought they were singing instead :lol: .

No Scramble -I really am not cool ask my kids. I am one big embarassment. Its for years of them showing us up in public and the howlers we still remember.

My ES (now 13) was reading The Jungle Book to me one evening - he was about 7 I think and I was slowly nodding off as you do when they read in monosyallble voices when i woke with a start when he uttered the words "Mowgli was small and knackered!" I grabbed the book and read "Mowgli was small and naked!" Whew relief all round - Rudyard would turn in his grave

Its funny what your brain makes some words to be. My hubby used to like a song by Spear of Destiny called Liberator. He sang the chorus as 'I'm a little bit high, a little bit high, a little bit.'

Bet you can't guess what the real lyrics were?

:lol::lol::lol:

I had never heard the song before so just found it and listened to it.:lol:

Wonder why they called the song Liberator when they are saying Little bit high :wink:

Funny though because if I wasn't watching the vid and knowing what he was NOT saying-it would be easy to think he was saying I'm a little bit high.

I can't comment anyway what with my Gay ol' flee!!

My hubby will be pleased he isn't alone in his choice of lyrics

I always used to think in the song "La Isla Bonita" by Madonna that she sung "Young girl with eyes like potatos" - in fact I'm not sure what she really does sing!

And in the Macy Gray song she really sings "I try to say goodbye and I choke, try to walk away and I stumble, though I try to hide it, it's clear, my world crumbles when you are not near" but what it ACTUALLY sounds like is "I try to say goodbye and I choke, try to walk away and I stumble, though I try to hide it, it's clear, I wore goggles when you were not near!!"

Honestly, listen to it, then every time you hear it you will hear "I wore goggles...!"

And one more, Kim Wilde - View from a Bridge, always sounded like View from a Pig to me!

The song Beggin by Madcon - I always sing "Peggy Sue" instead of Beggin You

Thats what we sing at school!

My friends brother used to sing an Anastacia song, "and I held my head up high" as "and I held my leg up high, reaching for the sky"

He had a dance to it and had a massive high kick in it at that bit

When I was younger I worked in a shop and a song came on called Constant Craving (can't rememebr who it was by) and a lady came up to the till and said to her daughter - oh, listen it's that song again - Can't Stand Gravy.

Everytime I hear that now it's all I can hear.

Sorry if I have just ruined the song for anyone!

No, you've improved it no end! :D

I too always hear 'Sue Lawley' instead of 'so lonely' in the Police song.

Sometimes it can be a blessing. I remember when Grease was out, my younger sister was only 5. There's a line in 'Look at me, I'm Sandra Dee' that goes 'lousy with virginity'. She had never heard the word so made up her own version, 'lousy with hajinifsy' - it was much nicer to hear her sing it like that than the actual lyrics.

All our family still sing it her way and she's 36 now!
