Great pics Jules, how old were the chicks when they showed their "true colours"? Mine are a week tomorrow, and I'm just wondering how long I will have to wait...........why can't they stay all cute & fluffy.........gorgeous though your tribe are  !!

Sha x

We had a good inkling at 4 weeks, & it was 5 weeks when we were sure & then I brought my 5 chicks home to live with us again.

We are  at the boys :D

 at the grass comments!

I restrict free ranging when the ground is wet. I also tend to give them the whole run of the lawn & not just the bottom end, I've really noticed this week how much shorter the grass is where the chickens have been confined to, & so moved the netting to the patio end of the garden. The grass that they are normally on at the bottom is Canada grass which we grew from seed, if that's any help.

My hens do get at least 3 hours free ranging every day when its dry :D

*pops out to look*

It looks like just one feather right at the bottom. The boys certainly have many more.

Here they are at 4 weeks old- not a good picture, but you can just about tell the boys from the girls by their face furniture.
