The e-mails have got on my nerves already and I've only been signed up for one day! Didn't make cake or shine sink .... dropped into see friends after work and stayed for dinner, red wine and playing cards ... Okay, will start again today. Ditto I have "hot zones" where the paperwork just piles up - it's ALL "important" for one reason or another ... OH's idea of tidying up is to dump everything in the guest/spare room. It takes my breath away to open the door - I avoid going in there at all costs. In fact, he thinks most of my accumulated clutter is just junk and suggests it ALL goes in the skip It doesn't help that I've been unemployed now for 2 mths and he thinks the place should sparkle like a new pin ... Yorkshire Pudding Posted August 14, 2009 Share Posted August 14, 2009 Wow, well done - we tried to instigate something similar last year and our two lasted a week before they coudln't be bothered to do the jobs and didn't miss the lack of pocket money. It might be worth another try this year, they're a year older and far more mercenary... One tactic that does reap rewards in this house is using a timer - 'we're all going to go like mad through this room for ten minutes and then we'll stop' - as long as we keep it brief they join in. Eek! As long as the kitchen, bathroom and her bedroom are clear and the clutter is limited to one end of the lounge I won't feel too bad just shutting the door to my bedroom! (and piling any excess in there whilst I'm away!) She's lived with me so she knows what I'm like! It might even be more tidy when I come back I love the "Jolly Jobs" ha ha ha. AJuff Posted August 14, 2009 Author Share Posted August 14, 2009 I tackled the guest room today which was full of dry laundry on clothes horses. Once folded DD (6yrs) delivers it to the correct bedroom to be put aay by each individual. I found lots of odd socks which she helped me match and I removed a huge amount of dust from the carpet! My sink is still shiny but I haven't cleaned it again Plum, I think that's the point. You do it once, and it stays done, you just have to check and maintain. I know I suffer from "must get round to that" instead of just doing it, and therefore spend more time worrying about things. Speaking of which, must get to bed! I seem to have faced up to housework and have tackled all those horrible areas one step at a time. The routines I've put into place seem to be working well all round and i am no longer ashamed of the mess. The study is the messiest place now as all the unwanted/unused/too small stuff is in the corner waiting to go on ebay!! My aim is 'A place for everything and everything in it's place.' And it's slowly creeping down the hall into the guest room! Good thing no-one visits or we'd have to put them up on the sofa Seriously tho'. OH is good at clearing up - he "hides" everything in the guest room. I take a deep breath evertime I open the door - it overwhelms me ... I still get dressed to my shoes and tie my laces (good thing working full time, though I have been known to turn up in odd shoes in the past) Some elements have stuck, like the shiny sink and I keep blitzing small areas and feel happy to stop after 15 mins and do the 2min tackling hot spots but the home blessing day - forget it. I refuse to have postits around my mirror either and won't keep a journal. I haven't put on the flowery dress or lacy apron yet either. Now a team coming to clean for you, that IS a good idea! I once bought a voucher for a house clean as a maternity leave present for a colleague. She thought it was odd at first... until the baby was three months old and her OH was back at work, and her house had vanished under a mountain of laundry... The home blessing hour does take too long so i've spread it out throughout the week. ALong with my weekly menus and shopping lists, my whole life is organised. Sounds dead boring but i've managed to organise two days a week for studying whereas i was struggling to find any time. So it may be boring but it's giving me time to do wha i want to do.
