My chickens saved my bacon in a surprising way

Recommended Posts

I had quite a lazy morning reading my book and forum browsing then i decided to do lunch before getting to grips with all of the things that should have been done in the morning. As our eggs and toast were cooking I picked up today's egg from Toffee to weigh it and make a note in my diary like I do with all the eggs. When I opened my diary it was still on last week so I turned the page and discovered that DS had an orthodontist appointment 35 minutes later.

I would have completely forgotten otherwise the appointment was made months ago and I had specifically wanted one in the holidays so that I didn't have to take him out of school, so phew. We had time to eat lunch and get there just in time.

He will have to have 3 teeth out and braces in about 9 months time and he has an adult tooth missing under one of his 2 remaining baby teeth so she said that she hopes he hangs onto the baby tooth for a good while and then he can have an implant when he is older to fill the gap. On the other side he has to have the other baby tooth out because the adult tooth is coming up in the wrong place. I don't think he is looking forward to this.

That was a bit of luck - nothing worse than missing an appointment, especially if you get charged  .

Hope your DS copes with all his treatment :) . Mine had fixed braces for nearly 2 years and coped fine. He has a lovely smile now (but won't wear the retainers so I hope they don't move back  ).

Tell him he has to wear the retainers, or his teeth will move and then he can pay the £1000 odd pounds to get braces again when his teeth have gone all wonky.

Luckily I didn't have to have any teeth out and my fixed brace was put on in two stages, so the pain was less!

I had to have a milk tooth out to have my braces, the adult tooth was growing through aswell.

I had mine quite early compared to my friends which is good now they're off :D

I wore my retainer and think my teeth havent moved, but its really tight to get on a few years later.

Clever Chickens

My sister had that as well Freda

You should have heard her yell, you would have thought she was being murdered :wink:

Unfotunately it seems as though she is going to have to have surgery as well as braces :(

Which means they are going to have to cut her jaw in half and put it back together somewhere else

I feel really bad, as she hates her teeth and she just wants them fixed as they hurt her too :(

Her boyfriend has been lovely to her though, when she mentioned the braces he told her she'd always be beautiful to him :P

I'm just glad my teeth have always been good :)

On the NHS DS was supposed to have his bottom teeth straightened out. He ended up with the top set being done and hardly anything to his bottom teeth. I was quite surprised as he didn't appear to have a problem at all - when questioned it was "overbite". He got so cheesed off that he refused to wear the contraption. When the orthodontist said he needed to have his bottom teeth straightened I refused because I thought he had had enough messing around. As it happens his teeth are fine now without having a brace on the bottom. DD had to go private and that was a pallaver too. She had a very large gap in between her top front teeth - so much so that she could drink with a straw comfortably nestled between them! She had to have an operation to cut her gum before the rest of the treatment. When we went to the orthodontist she was told her jaw wasn't in allignment and had these rubber things to push her bottom jaw forward - which wasn't why we were sent to the orthodontist in the first place. In fact it was so badly done that her jaw clicked and it took a long time to settle down after that - again we requested that the treatment be stopped. She was then given train tracks to bring her teeth together as was originally planned. This went on a little too long for my liking - and we had to cough up for extra sessions because the "treatment" hadn't completed in the time originally estimated. When the tracks were finally removed a year after she was told she wouldn't need them any more, the orthodontist left sharp lumps of glue behind her teeth. It was ages after that she mentioned her tongue being cut by the jagged edges. Our own dentist did the job when she went for a check up.

All I can say is Steve Buscemi hasn't done too badly - and he's American!

I also had a bad orthodontist - to be fair I actually did have bunny teeth. But the orthodontist was not a nice man. He had to extract 2 teeth and he screamed at me to stop pulling on the arms of his chair because I was going to break it - at the same time he was wrenching them out. Of course if he hadn't pulled my head out of the chair and dislocating my neck (or so it seemed at the time) and the blooming injection had been strong enough . . .

Phew that was lucky then! Thank goodness you weighed the egg.

I had to have four teeth out for my brace when I was a child but found it wasn't too bad. My teeth are still a bit crooked but I'll leave well alone.

My YS has had one appointment with the orthodontist, he's not at all impressed with the idea and says he's not going to go back. They want to check him in a year as they think he'll definitely need something done. But they said that about my DD and she has lovely teeth.

Although DS has to have 3 teeth out in all, YD will have to have a lot more work done she has another appointment just before Christmas and she has very overcrowded teeth and still has quite a few baby teeth to lose. She has been referred to the hospital orthodontic department because hers are so bad. On the other hand ED inherited my straight strong teeth and is very relieved about that.

I think DS quite likes his teeth the way they are because he has quite impressive fangs at the moment :?

do you know, I never had a problem with my teeth, until just before Christmas.

then, all toothy hell broke loose

Ive had wisdom teeth (not just the one) coming through, and infections in them, sensitive teeth, more wisdom teeth, broken teeth.

you would think with the amount of wisdom teeth that Ive had through, I should be a child genius  (shame, im 36 now  )

at one point i had my own chair in the dentist, the receptionist knew the sound of my voice :lol: .

its (slowly) getting better

grrr, teeth

cathy

I am really glad I have no wisdom teeth, I remember my dad going through hell with his in his mid thirties, for a week he had to live on Complan through a straw because he couldn't open his mouth :vom::shock:

According to DS's x-rays he has no wisdom teeth either so that is one less hassle he will have. :D
