Lesley H
Hi Guys - no worries - I have found a place by looking on www.hemcore.co.uk - perfect...the lawn is suffering just too much!!!!
The Dogmother
It's also known as Aubiose (different company, same stuff). I just phoned round all the horse feed places locally and found one just up the road.
gooner.girl
Oh Cool! Thanks for that. I have been thinking about purchasing some hemcore for our chickens as well and have found a place via your link that sells it not far from me! Snowy
Please can anyone tell me where I can get Hemcore in the Leicester area? I have tried a few horsey places - no joy I bought aubiose from Welland Valley feeds, just outside Market Harborough. Let me know if you need more info. Snowy
Whoops - just realised you got some!
Merryn
Just got a bale of aubiose from our local saddlery. It is fantastic and SO much cleaner than the bark chippings. I spent 2hrs last weekend taking out all the manky chippings (which were mixed up with earth and making the hens filthy) and putting down a bed of aubiose. The hens were so funny with it when I put them back into the run. Since then their water has stayed cleaner and they haven't got so wet in all this rain. The Dogmother
That's good news Merryn. Mine is a tad dirty because of all the rain we've had but it doesn't seem to get muddy at all.
gooner.girl
I bought my hemcore today coincidentally. Despite the lady in the shop saying that it was very expensive just to do chickens with! Had a nightmare getting it out of the bag and into the run. finally all spread around, hope they don't make to much mess with it - are they l;ikely to push it out the run bars to outside the run does anyone know??? The Dogmother
It's odd that she said that it was expensive - the bales are so big and compressed that tey last for ages.
gooner.girl
I used just over half for my run (with extension) I gather it lasts for ages so i don't mind paying for it. I think my bale was about £
Lesley H
I have been succesfully using hemcore since the last post - we just made a surround out of log edging like it suggests on the website. we put bark around the edges and hemcore where the run goes. The chickens love it - it's fantastic. The love digging in it...and the poo really does just disappear! I would highly recomend it to anyone who is thinking about it. JellyB
Does anyone know where I can get some hemcore/auboise in the Manchester/Bury region? The only place I've found so far won't deliver just one bale and I dont' have transport so can't go and collect it and I don't have room to store loads. Amazingly they do deliveries to a stables about 10 minutes drive away from me but refuse to make the extra trip to my house even though I am more than willing to pay delivery charges
The Dogmother
Would you be able to do a deal and buy some from the stables?
JellyB
I could try that. Actually buying the stuff isn't the problem...it's the lack of my own transport and geting whoever I buy it from to deliver it No-one seems to want to bother with small deliveries
Mel (& Paul)
Get more chickens then That way you'll need more hemcore and they will deliver
JellyB
Haha.....don't tempt me More chickens is a cunning plan however, current funds won't fund another eglu
Hazel_L
I bought 4 bales in August this year as there's no local suppliers near us and have just finished my first bale today based on changing it monthly. Superb value
