Steph101
I've heard people on this forum talk about the 'Roomba', and I looked it up on Google, and it looks brilliant. Where is the best place to order one? Which company do you recommend? Thank you
Egluntyne
I got mine online from the Roomba people themselves. They do sell them at some branches of John Lewis and at Lakeland shops.
Cinnamon
I got mine from Lakeland, & it came very quickly. Might be worth trying those price comparison sites............. I am still waiting on the Roomba/Slinky hybrid to do the stairs

eggregiousness
Oh wow! I just watched a Youtube video and I want one VERY much! Does anyone know how close to the floor the furniture has to be before it will fail to get under? There are gaps under my kitchen units which I clean by, rather tentatively (scared of what I'll find there ), poking around with a stick. TAJ
They look interesting - can anyone tell me how tidy your house needs to be for it to work without getting stuck on shoe laces for example. I like the concept, but will my floor be clear enough to allow it to work? Tracy
Cinnamon
I got my replacement Roomba last week, & after deciding that it is more trouble to get a room Roomba ready than it is to whizz around with the hoover, I sold it on eBay I can hoover without having to put all the chairs up, as I have a very easy to use Sebo cylinder. I did enjoy having Roomba, but I can honestly say that I can happily live without him too
chickenanne
H'mmmm.... I need a new vacuum cleaner, and am not sure if a roomba is more hassle than is worth or would be a godsend even after the novelty had worn off....Am really not sure either way. I guess for Lesley it's a no, anyone else want to share their opinion?
jlo
It may not seem that way but I am busy vacuuming at the moment I haven't set Roomba free in the kids' play room as that would take some clearing. To be honest, I am a bit scared to take the Miele in there either! Personally, I really like it.

So this is what I am thinking - the cats leave toy mice everywhere, shoes get dumped in the halls, papers get left on the floor - I am not convinced (without supervision) it will work for me, I was thinking it could do its work whilst I was out at work, but is that to risky? Cinnamon
You do need clear areas for it to work, really. I lost count the number of times mine ate the laces of my husbands work boots

Tracy It is apparently able to be used whilst you are out and then programmed to go back to its dock. Personally, I wouldn't do that. Our house can only be done small sections at a time because of the number of stairs in the place.
xScrunchee
I have had so many problems with Roomba in the past year It has been sent back a couple of times for repair, I have had to have new parts sent out to me and it has been a bit of a headache. At first I thought I would never go back to using a normal vacuum but when Roomba is in for repair I realise that I don't mind doing it myself anyway. I like it when it works well but floors have to be kept clear, the cliff sensors do not work on very dark carpet and it does get stuck under some furniture and I have to be there to rescue it. It also gets tangled on threads, laces etc even though it is supposed to be able to untangle itself. Once it dies completely I won't get another one but while it's here and working I will get my money's worth!!
Alis girls
I would worry it might suck up the cat My tabby hates the hoover and runs for cover.
Egluntyne
I have had 2 years trouble free use with my Roomba. It needs a new battery now though I think as I am only getting half an hours work out of it per charge. I suppose that is fair doos tbh. I bought it originally as I had twanged my back and couldn't vacuum, and it was worth its weight in gold for that reason alone.
poachedegg
Thinking on getting one of these, all our floors downstairs (& most upstairs) are laminate and the hall and living room have rugs - would it work on these surfaces?

millymollymandy
I have a Roomba and I think it is brilliant even given it a name Hugh - some geek reference from OH about robots can't remember why!! The fact that you have to clear the floor so he doesn't get tangled on stuff makes me tidy the house more often which is a good thing as then clutter doesn't get left lying around. The house is now more tidy as I just used to hoover around things before. I would definately recomend one but I don't have messy kids- swap the kids for a Roomba is my answer!!
