JoanneFrizzle
Hi, Our lovely 15 week old frizzle hens will have to be rehomed due to my on-going allergy . We have only had them two weeks and they have settled in beautifully. My asthma has been getting worse, and even with steroids is no better. The Doctor has said they must go I have been keeping my distance from them, but have got no better. The breeder we bought them from is reluctant to take them back as she has some small frizzle chicks now. Tomorrow I'm going to try and ring a garden centre with a poultry section to see if they can take them. Joanne
Ain't Nobody Here
I'm so sorry to hear that, Joanne . You must be devastated . Are you absolutely sure it's definitely the chicks? Another thread was talking about asthma being bad for everybody at the moment . If you really have no choice, there might be someone on the forum who could rehome them for you. Stu58
Hi, I've sent you a PM. We are in Oxfordshire, not too far away. Let me know if we can help rehome your chickens. I'm sorry you are allergic to them.
abwsco
Oh Joanne, you must be devastated. Like Vickki says are you derfinately sure it's your chickens. Only asking as I know a lot of GP's/specialists will blame pets for excema and asthma flare ups. They did with my youngest DD years ago and finally as a last resort we rehomed out cat It made no flaming difference at all and I felt guilty for a long time. Must admit my asthma feels bad today. Redwing
Sorry to hear that Joanne, I've pm'd you as I can take the chickens here temporarily while you establish if they are to blame for your problems, they can be re-homed from here if necessary x

JoanneFrizzle
Hi everyone, It's very heart-warming how kind everyone is. Thank you everyone for your offers of help. I have sent a PM to Redwing as she has offered to take them very quickly. Between us then we can perhaps re-home them with a bit of breathing space - literally! My daughter is heartbroken but understands we have no choice. I have said to her perhaps we could look into somthing else for her to love. As I'm allergic to furry animals, a tortoise might be on the cards in the future. I had one as a child for over 20 years, so defintely no allergies there! She can keep busy researching good breeders in the area to take her mind off the chickens. Once again thanks everybody. Joanne

TAJ
I have a terrible alergy to cats, but given 5 weeks with a new cat it calms down. We had a cat in 1988 and I was unable to breath, sneezing all the time and couldn't be anywhere near it. After a couple of months (as long as his fur didn't touch my skin) I was fine. When he died in 2003 we replaced him with 2 new cats - I had forgotten about the problems I had with the original cat and I was the same again with the new cats for 6 weeks, but then it calmed down. Your body may get use to them given a few weeks. Tracy
JoanneFrizzle
Hi Tracy, Wish it was only sneezing, I would have put up with that. Unfortunately it was a severe allergy needing steroids to knock my immune system out. Appartenly if I have kept them it would have got worse, possibly resulting with respiratory arrest I'm still not well, have 10 days more of steroids so have nearly got no immune system - must keep away from swine flu!
