sootem
Bella my favourite little girl came limping across the garden this afternoon. I examined her leg and it doesn't seem to be broken - she still moves her toes. She didn't seem to be in any apparent pain and ate and drank ok. She still wanted to be with the others. However this evening she is obviously tiring and I wondered what to do - do I take her to the vet. I thought that I would segregate her from the others and eforce her to rest her leg over the weekend and see what she's like on Monday. I have no idea why she is limping - has anyone else had a similar problem? All replies really welcome. Susanx
Ain't Nobody Here
Here is a recent thread about a limping chicken. I've no first hand experience but you may find something useful there . Hope she's better soon .
Raina
Hi, Not long after i got my girls one of them,Lady Lay, Started limping. She had fell funny on the roosting bars (her leg went in one of the gaps as she was running out the eglu) I took her to the vets and they said to keep her off the roosting bars till her leg got better, She's better now and is much more careful on the roosting bars. Could this of happened to Bella?
sootem
That may well be what happened or the fact that we are having a small wall built in the garden and she may have jumped off it and hurt herself.
Plum
My Pigeon limped for a bit when she had slept perched on the divider in the cube, perhaps she tried that. You could check the pad of her foot and between her toes for any inflamation or foreign bodies?
sootem
Just to say that after two days of bed rest in the rabbit hutch and lots of tlc Bella is now minus the limp! What a week - with Bella and Dotty both poorly. Hopefully calm has now descended again! Susan!

Sara@Brentford
A million crouches = a bad back! Susanx Hi, I'm relatively new to using the forum...but I've had a tough month! After two years of trouble free hen keeping, we've had one death (vet thought calcium deficiency - I think Red Mite), one looking very scraggy & under the weather (I think greiving... do they greive? red mite & generally needing TLC) - this one seems loads better now... But current concern is Auren who is limping! I've read your posts, and the links, and don't really know what to do... When I first saw her limping, I cleaned her feet checking for stones, cuts, infections, etc. - all looked fine. Next day, when still limping, I thought it might be Scaley Leg Mite (not that I could see mite or that the legs looked any different from usual) but I rubbed them with vaseline anyway (as suggested in 'Chicken Health'). She seems happy, lively and enthusiastic as usual, so I'm hoping it's just a twist/sprain that will heal in time. By only option for confined bed rest is to keep her in a pet carrier...but that really is confined... Any more thoughts? Thanks
Egluntyne
Why not try her with a calcium supplement and some arnica pilules.....I dissolve them into the drinking water or hide them in a piece of sweetcorn. It might do the trick.
Sara@Brentford
Thanks! I watched her for a couple of days and think that it was probably a sprained ankle(!) possibly stumbling on the cube ladder... All is now well!
