Guest
I'm considering getting some hybrid ducks form my local supplier early next year, do hens and ducks get on and are ducks nosier that hens? any other advice is welcome
gooner.girl
Hi I've been looking at keeping ducks myself, have done a bit of research and found that female ducks are much noisier then male ducks (and hens) but male ducks will get too loving (if you see what i mean ) with the chickens. So i am a bit unsure as to how to go forwards on this one myself....
Louise
Ducks are very messy as what they eat is very watery so what comes out the back end.......................................................... They can be quite smelly too

Louise
Personally no Some people love them but I couldn't cope with the mess myself
chelsea
if I were a lady of leisure and had a big sprawling manor estate with lake, I'd definetly invest in some ducks. As Im none of the above, I will stick with chickens. its tempting though
Martin B
The eggs taste nice which is a plus. Lesley and Kazadress are the most frquent posters who keep ducks.
Lesley
I wouldn't choose to have them again
gooner.girl
My dilemma was between ducks and battery hens - which do i get next yera? I think i'm going to postpone duck keeping til i have a bigger garden I would love to keep them but they sound like a lot of trouble and my garden isn't that big. When i do it i want to be able to do it properly. So battery hens here i come!

Snowy
There's a good article in this months Practical Poultry about a young lad who hatched some ducks and chicks. Very funny to read of his experiences with the ducks - needless to say he gave up and concentrated on chickens!
Martin B
I must have missed that bit!

gooner.girl
I'm told so but they're cuter then chickens! Does that make up for it?!
Lesley
Two ducks would be messier - and they're not always cute
Guest
The general concensus seems to be falling on the negative side of keeping ducks due mainly to them being messy , also opinons seem to vary on how much space they need which also seems to apply to chickens too! Confused Does anyone know of anyone who keeps ducks in southampton hampshire area that I could visit
AnnieP
The nearest person on the forum is probably Kazadress, who is in Farnborough? Try PMing her!
The Dogmother
Try emailing barbara@omlet.co.uk as she organises all the visits and would know of any duck owners in that area.
