Kit Williams' Golden Hare

Recommended Posts

Super article in THE MAIL today about a book I remember so well from my childhood 'Masquerade', its author Kit Williams & the golden hare he buried as treasure.

My uncle Jim bought me the book & we spent hours poring over it,speculating where the Hare was buried....he even bought a metal detector at one point

It says in the article that 'anyone approaching middle age' will remember the huge media storm created by Kit,his book & his wonderful Hare.

Never thought of myself as approaching middle age before :?

I suspect many of yo young nearly middleagers will remember it all well too 8)

Yes I've got it too!

Also his ' Bee on the Honeycomb' which was untitled and you had to work it out from the illustrations on each page. (Turned out that you had to count the !bee!!bee!!bee!!bee! in each picture and match it letters of the alphabet to spell out the title.

The winner got the only titled book.

And............ the alphabet book where you had to find all the illustrated a's b's c's etc on each page.

Lovely books!!!

I remember my dad having this book and spending hours poring over it trying to work out the clues. He did get quite a few of them. I loved looking at the illustrations; finding the hare in each page. I was in a charity shop recently and bought myself a copy so my kids can have a look at it. I remember feeling gutted that the golden hare had been dug up by some dog walker and not by someone working out the clues.
