chooklady
Poor Hammie has gone missing. This is the 4th time he has escaped he should have been called Houdini I think. We discovered he was missing on Saturday night. He had been in the fish tank cabinet in my daugther's bedroom and he had been next door in ED's wardrobe but there have been no evidence of activity for 2 days now. Poor Hammie he was very sweet, Why did it have to be the nicer one of the two. Poor Abby is very upset. She thinks I have given up on him but I said I'm not really sure what she expects me to do as it is we have just about turned the house upside down trying to find him. We have put little bowls of food out with allsorts of goodies including grapes, he must be thirsty poor little mite. Falkor
My friends hamster escaped when we were in college and he turned up a month later He was happily standing in the middle of the halls corridoor when we returned from lectures one day! CUE twelve 17-22 year old girls trying to catch ONE hamster in a corridoor about 60ft long So I spose my point is that he may well be ok for a while and just appear
purple hen
You could try a bucket trap, it always worked when our hamster escaped. You put some tasty food treats and a container of water in the bottom of a bucket, then you build a ramp of books/blocks etc, on the outside of the bucket so that the hamster can climb up. the hungry hammy hopefully gets into the bucket to eat/drink, but can't get back out. Position the trap in the room you think he is in, leave open any cupboard doors and leave overnight. Hopefully a little whiskery face will be peering up at you in the morning. chooklady
Thakyou for your replies. There are no signs of Hammie, he hasn't taken any food, we have pots of goodies in each room and have been trying hard to keep the doors shut so he can't get from one room to anther, but as yet we have no indication of where he is. I thought once we had some sightings we could concentrate on that room. We have checked all the places we can think of so I guess we will just have to see what happens now. Thanks everyone. Ain't Nobody Here
What a shame . Our Oscar escaped once and I found him sitting in amongst my vegetables in a kitchen cupboard . I once waited up till the house was dark and quiet to catch a previous hamster (successfully!)
Vix_Chicks
Sorry to hear about your hamster. We lost our hamster once (my brother left it in a shoe box on the upstairs landing - and was surprised when it chewed through it and escaped!!). We had 3 cats at the time, and thought there would be no hope. However, about a week later, one of the cats was sniffing around one of the kitchen cupboards. After pulling everything out of the cupboard, there he was!! So don't give up hope!!!
kitbag
When I had rats, one of them escaped and in order to get her back, we had to go in every room and be really quiet to see if we could hear her!
chooklady
We have not found Hammie there have been no signs for over a week now. A couple of days ago we went to Pets at Home and rehomed one of the hamsters in their adoption cantre. A pretty female Syrian hamster called Popcorn, she is settling in nicely. Olly
sorry to hear that Hammie couldn't be found, but at least you have given a home to another lucky hamster!

Valkyrie
A friend of mine's hamster kept climbing up inside the chair linings - your's isn't stuck inside a settee or chair? If a hammie slipped inside ours it would be snacking on all manner of crisps and sweets that my delightful family have helped to stuff down there - and thats hoovering out under the cushions too! One of our rats disappeared - luckily we found her under the stairs in one of the crisp packets - if it hadn't been for the rustling noise we wouldn't have found her. Another one used to like investigating the chimney.
Patricia W
We lost one on Christmas Eve and eventually heard him wandering in the gap between the ceiling and the upstairs floor boards. So as well as wrapping presents and keeping children calm, we were ripping up floorboards and waving lettuce leaves around to catch the b... thing! I think it was very late when we got to bed that night! Tricia
