Egluntyne
I think if you want to work in media/marketing then you have to know that 'I have wrote to' is wrong! It should be 'I have written to'. Maybe that's the problem! I spotted this little mistake and wasn't sure whether to comment, Martin. They always say that you only get one chance to make a first impression...and little details like this do matter. Perhaps if you get someone to glance over your letters it might help. Good luck. Cinnamon
Martin,is there a Waitrose near you? Maybe you could work there on the basis that you are concerned about the environment & they are supposed to be the most green supermarket. Someone I know did this & they worked in stock controll,& were taken on several field trips to see how the produce made its way from farm to shelf. Or a local farm shop or veggie box producer.....................

Maybe that's the problem! My DD2 has got a week's work in our optician's. She is looking forward to it! Good luck Martin! Martin, in the cold light of day, I want to apologise for being so rude. I wouldn't normally say anything like that - and I should know better than to post on the forum when I am so tired and - as I can see now - irritable! Egluntine makes a good suggestion - that you get your letters checked over. I really hope you find something you want to do and will enjoy. When is Work Experience? My DD2's is at the end of May, just before half-term. We had to get 'own placements' sorted out before Christmas so that Trident has time to check them out and arrange insurance etc. Once again, I'm sorry for my comments! kannie
Hi Martin - only just picked up on this thread - a bit late - sorry! Don't forget charities too. For instance Thrive http://www.thrive.org.uk/ do some great work. Not sure if they have any projects near you though.
Egluntyne
What about local newspapers or small marketing firms in your area?

Cookie
When I did work experience (m..a..n..y.. moons ago now!) I worked in a local garden centre, because I also didn't want to get stuck in an office for two weeks making tea. I had a great time, and they are the sort of place that can always do with an extra pair of hands. Local businesses are also usually more up for taking on someone for work experience than a larger regional or national firm. Eventually I ended up as an accountant working in an investment bank - and I still hate offices!!! How did that happen?? Good luck with finding somewhere interesting. Cookie. xx
The Dogmother
Make sure that you follow them up with a phone call in about 10 days Martin. The people you have hosen to work with are very popular and I am sure that they will be inundated by requests; you might just make that difference by calling to check that they received it and whether they can help. The worst they can say is 'no thanks' I used to work as Placements Manager for a large business training centre, getting people their placements and final jobs. Feel free to pick my brain if you're at the market on Saturday.
Laura007
I've just dug this thread up because I've wrote 5 letters now, but still need to write a few more. I've wrote to Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Derby County and Walsall expressing an interest in working in their media/market department. Fingers Crossed! derby county!!!!!!
Laura007
My DD2 has got a week's work in our optician's. She is looking forward to it! i have worked in an opticians for nearly 17 years, its one of those trades you seem to stick with, she should like it. what will she be doing?? if your optician has a lab make sure she has a stint in it. this is really the heart of the store and she will learn alot in there. also she should ask to sit in a few tests, a child, a middle aged person and someone who is a little more mature, they are all differnt. if she wants any info pm me. Guest
Thank you Laura, how kind. The person looking after her will be the boss (of two stores) and he is talking about doing lots of different things with her including the lab. She's really looking forward to it.
