Raina
Hi all, We're moving house on the 12th of this month. But the Chicks are due to hatch on the 7th. If we had known the house move was on that date i wouldn't of put the eggs in the Bator. If the eggs do hatch when they're supposed to,what's the best way to keep them warm during the move? TIA, Raina
Chook n Boo Mum
How far are you moving? Would they be ok in a small box with a warm wheatbag or similar to keep them warm for the journey & get them set up as soon as you arrive? I have some s"Ooops, word censored!"s of sheepskin which they may be able to snuggle into? Let me know & I'll look them out. Sorry I have no experience of moving such small creatures, I hope all goes well Sha x
Lewis
You're going to Wales aren't you Raina? Its quite a way so I'd get a few hot water bottles and wrap them in towels and see if you can stop at a services half way and put fresh boiling water in them. You can get invertors so that you can plug your heat lamp into the cigarette lighter plug so they wouldn't notice a difference. As strange as it may sound, maybe put them in the bottom of a cool box (without the lid on! ) so that the heat stays in.
Raina
Thanks I've got a small cardboard box i can put them in,i have a couple of hot water bottles, and a fluffy polar bear rug (don't worry it's fake lol) so hopefully they'll do? I'm transporting the tortoise's that way too (minus the rug lol) and yep, were going to Wales (Abergele) The brooder will the the last thing to go in so it'll be the first to come out
Redwing
I collected a chick a while back - I plugged the inccy in, warmed it up, unplugged it and went and got the chick in the still warm inccy You have the same sort of inccy as me, I would line the floor with some non slip stuff (bits of tea towel or cleaning cloths are great) and warm it up then transport them in it, the polystyrene will hold the heat for qute a while, it has air holes and the smallish space will keep them close together so they keep warm

bronze
I've lost power for over 5 hours once during a hatch. I used hot water bottles. Remember to wrap them well then unwrap them as they cool. The advantage is you can refill them if needed. Also cover whatever theyre travelling in really well to keep in the heat
