lew
When I was cleaning my new eglu, I noticed that there are a lot of small holes. They are like air bubbles that have burst. It is particularly bad around the egg door where they have joined together so it's like a split. Is this normal and are the double skin insulation properties still effective when there are holes? Also, won't it be more difficult to check and protect against red mite? It wasn't purchased as a 'second' and for such an expensive item it does seem to be a poor standard. Thought I would ask, it could be normal and just part of the injection moulding process or it could be an eglu that slipped through the quality control! Thank you
xScrunchee
Hi Have you got a photo of the problem area? From what you are saying-it sounds quite bad and if it was me, I'd contact Omlet and let them know that you are not happy. My Eglu has some pitting in places but nothing too bad. The holes are not deep, more like little dimples. You are right in saying that it is expensive-therefore you shouldn't put up and shut up if you are not happy. I don't think it would affect the insulation properties too much but it can definitely cause problems if you had red mite as they would get right into the holes and be a complete pain to treat. So-contact Omlet, let them know the problem and that you are not happy and I'm sure they will sort it out for you Best of luck
Ain't Nobody Here
Doesn't sound normal to me either . I don't even have any of the pitting others talk about (and mine was a reconditioned one). I'd phone Omlet (and post a photo here too!). Margaret
+ WIR Lavender Mabel Posh Marjorie Sorry I cant find the thread but somebody had the same problem a few weeks ago, and red mite had infested the 'bubble holes' dont want to alarm you but do get straight on to the omlet team. Hope all is ok and will be rectified soon.

lew
Hi Thank you for the advice, I'll phone Omlet to see what they have to say. Thanks also to Mountainboarddude for the link to the thread. It doesn't seem as if Omlet are going to be much help but I will try. The red mite problem seems horrendous, at least I know now to check out the holes. I think that if Omlet know this is a product of the manufacturing process they should alert buyers to the possibility - a note on the instruction paperwork would help if they don't want to put people off by putting it on the web-site! I'll take a pic tomorrow lunchtime and post it tomorrow night if I can. Lesley
Redwing
It sounds like yours is a differnt sort of problem, there may have just been a dodgy few out of the moulds, I have four Eglus and no holes as you describe
Patricia W
I have 2 and a cube and no holes as you describe in any of them. Yours does sound a different problem. Tricia
Lesley
Definitely sounds like a quality control problem - let us know how you get on.
mountainboarddude
i am awaiting a brochure from olmet to show my parents so that i can buy an eglu, this has however put me off slightly as i already have a problem with red mite. are most people sattisfied with their eglus as i gather that this problem only affects a small number of eglus and cubes. and i hope that you have luck with sorting out your problem and talking to eglu about it
The Dogmother
Matt, you have to bear in mind that people generally only post about this sort of stuff when they have problems; there are far more satisfied customers than otherwise. I have a cube, and eglu and a rablu; all have the minute air bubbles caused by the moulding process, but none to the extent that is mentioned above. I wouldn't worry about it. I would say that more people are happy than not.
Chook n Boo Mum
I would say that more people are happy than not. I'd say look at some of our signatures...we wouldn't keep buying them if we weren't happy with them.....I mean, I've got 4 ( plus a awaiting my collection Ooop North ) Lesley has about 20 ...not quite but certainly more than most , so I think as has been said before, you hear about the problems more than the happy tales as people ask questions................. Just to redress the balance a bit.................. I am a happy Omlet owner Back on thread........Lew, have you had any luck with Omlet? lew
Here are the photo's OH took at lunchtime. Not brilliant but you can see the holes. The ones on the green plastic are definately the worst. Do they look like a 'normal' byproduct of the manufacturing? They haven't been magnified. OH thinks we should use a filler and seal the holes to prevent any possible red mite infection in them. Lesley
Patricia W
Neither of mine have these. Send them to Omlet. Tricia
xScrunchee
I wouldn't put filler in-I'd ask for a new one. I have no holes like that at all so would say that it is a fault and would definitely ring Omlet first thing to arrange a collection and re-delivery
Sheilaz
No Lew, that doesn't look normal. Phone Omlet rather than trying to fill them, and suggest they look at the pics. I've never seen examples or discussions of anything like those holes. I'm sure you'll find Omlet helpful if you explain to them how you have to us. You can't think of anything odd that could have caused damage can you? If it's from production, Omlet def. need to know, it's most unusual. Good luck! Olly
I agree - that's nothing like the 'production' holes that we've all seen. I'd get on to Omlet before you do anything about filling them. As others have said, it's standard to have some tiny imperfections in the finished product, but they have never caused me any problems - red mite is still a stranger to my Cube (touch wood). Ain't Nobody Here
(touch wood). Perhaps Omleteers should have a new saying ... "touch plastic" .
The Dogmother
Definitely not the norm and strange that it wasn't picked up in the warehouse. As the others have said, call Omlet and email the photos over.

debbier
I'd want a new one too: you can't clean that effectively at all! Are you still within the 30 day money back guarantee?

lew
As you know, I sent the pics to Omlet and they have been fantastic They are delivering replacement parts on Thursday - what an excellent service. I am so impressed with them. Added bonus is that I will be taking the day off work to be in for the delivery so that is an unexpected day of chicken watching So, big thanks to Omlet and big thanks to you all for your advice. BTW Beryl and Eileen laid their first eggs yesterday and there was another today! Lesley
