Today, i got up insanly early (4am) to go to my first ever poultry auction. I went to Salisbury with Tasha (Redwing). It was a fantastic experience and great to see lots of birds that i'd only seen in books or on the net before.

 

There were some absoloute stunners. Unfortunatly most of the birds i wanted went for quite a bit more than i was prepared to pay. There was a fantastic cuckoo frizzle bantam, some lovely duckwings and silver laced and the most gorgeous splash marans.

 

I did however come away with a bargain. Two vorwerk pullets for just over £30 I will post pics of Heidi and Helga when its light!!!

They were a bargain! Last time I was at Wernlas they had a waiting list as long as my arm for Vorweks

The poultry auction I went to a while back had no birds because of swine flu scares

Mostin and I went to an auction today too - prices a bit different though.... a pen of 3 frizzles went for £12; most expensive of the day seemed to be mostin's favourites, sussex bantam trios for £32.

The auctions are once a month and the catalogue is usually available about 10 days beforehand

oooh, so jealous! we went to wernlas today and the vorwerks are still on a waiting list of AT LEAST 1 year!!! Poor OH was miffed - he wanted those, arucanas and/or appelenzers (spelling awful, sorry!), all unavailble (poor lamb, just means I've got extra leverage for another eglu tho')

All 3 of those breeds were at Salisbury and some nice examples too

 

I bought an Appenzeller from Wernlas - an ex breeding female as they were disbanding a breeding pen - as they always have a waiting list for them I dont understand why they disbanded the pen still I got a super hen out of the deal

Ummm we did have a slight problem Tasha was putting them in my pet carrier for me, we got the first in and i tried to close the lid, it went funny and wouldn't close. Queue escapee running round the place Tasha managed to catch her although she did get pooed on!!

Tasha had told me she was going to look at the equipment not the birds So thats why the pet carriers were in her car then
