Did you sacrifice your extra hour in bed?

Recommended Posts

Muggins here did.

I set the alarm for 6.35 (new time!) with the plan of letting the girls out then going back to bed. However by the time I had got up, braved the cold, let them out, fed and watered them I was completely awake, so there went my lie-in.

Oh and I let them out about 10 mins later than normal, but they were not happy ladies. The rumpus they were making when I got out in the garden you would have thought I had left them shut up all day!

I hate it when that happens!

I try to do things on autopilot so my brain doesn't get chance to wake up. I had net bags of goodies all ready to go for the girls this morning to keep them occupied then went out to the run to discover Stella had already squeezed through the door and was running round like a chicken possessed (the others were too daft to follow her). So of course I had to let them all out.

Spent the next 5 minutes trying to tie up a bag of mixed chicken goodies to the side of the run in semi darkness with 4 chooks all tugging at it to get the first beak full.

Fully awake at 6am on a Sunday is not good is it ?

Having only had my girls for two months, I have already realised that you don't get lay-ins if you have chickens :!:

I don't have children, but I think I know what mothers feel like when their darlings get them up early :D

All the same I wouldn't give them up for the world, they bring such pleasure :D:D:D

You lot are mad! or maybe even morning people yourselves

I love my chickens .... too much ... :P .always fussing about them, cleaning out the nest box, and poo tray daily- the run weekly- giving them treats- free ranging them- giving them clean water everyday. etc..... etc.... but when it comes to getting up at the crack of dawn or befor........forget it.......

i always close the door of thier eglu at night and there they stay until we let them out in the morning about 8 in the week and 9 at week ends. they are fine, not a sound out of them until we open the eglu door then there off to enjoy the day. :D

maybe we are just lucky with our two? long may it last!

I am definitely not a morning person.

I could quite happily lounge in bed til 8.30+ of a morning and longer at weekends!

However, I would LIKE to be a morning person as on the rare occasions when I do get up early I always really enjoy it - it's like a secret time of the day when no-one else is up and about and I like having that quiet time to myself before the rest of the world gets started.

So I'm pleased to have my girls to get me out of bed in the morning and get on with the day.

p.s. I don't intend to get up at 4am in the summer to let them out :lol::lol:

No way. I'm a night person and I went to bed at 1am (new time). I saw the clocks change.

I leave the pop hole open and they get themselves up. I do have to let out the lavender though as she is sleeping in a cat box at the moment, but I leave a bowl pellets in with her. I set my alarm for 8.30am and rush out all asleep in my dressing gown, hair sticking up, usually tripping over something as I can't see yet and sort them all out.

When I got the chooks in August I did get up earlier to let them out for a while as they were in the cat run as I hadn't built the coop yet. That was hard, but I enjoyed it.

I'm like Lavenders_Blue though as I love mornings when I do get up early. Usually in Summer when I can't wait to go outside.
