Will someone please have a word with Flo

Recommended Posts

Well the madam is still laying in 'her' bush it doesn't matter if I have plumped up her nesting area for her or anything..

I just got really wet bending through that bush to get her egg, it's now not funny.. blooming gorgeous chook should know better.:evil:

I cant put a golf ball or anything in the nesting area as Cocoa (another mental chook) likes to sit on eggs wherever possible unless treats are about and she will give in.

pah... blooming girls.

Flo, this is Polly here, I'm one of Debs ex batts. I can appreciate you wanting to wind up your human, I too like doing this.

However, my game of hide and seek with the egg is far more exciting. You lay your egg wherever takes your fancy (behind the football seats, in the downstairs pen, under the orange dustbath, in the veg patch - you get the idea), then you run as far away as possible and start egg announcing.

If your human is anything like mine, she will go to the nest box first, will see that there is no egg there, and then the hide and seek game starts. The look on her face as she is hunting for it is quite interesting, I am quite sure she loves this game as much as I do.

However, I like to keep her on her toes, so will also lay in the nestbox too.

Good luck Flo, and you keep doing what you want to, remember it is us chickens that are in charge :D

oooh Polly what you suggest sounds a lot more fun, I shall make that my next challenge to annoy her in the orange crocs. ;)

I too like to lay in the nestbox occasionally I sit there and chat to Cocoa as she hides the other eggs under her big bossom. She is older than me so I let her as long as she understands I am top chook and have a far louder voice than she will ever have.

right off to find a bush to lay under....

I have to tell you ladies, I haven't laughed so hard in a fairly long time!! Fortunately those girls of mine who are still laying (just about) are quite good and tend to lay in the nest box - at least, I haven't found any randomly placed eggs dotted round the garden...

(Girls, this is Suzie, one of Carolyns hens... wanted to add that you're quite right, us chickens are totally in charge - I started making a fuss last night because Flo was practically sitting on me in the nest box (I know I'm small but I'm not a chick for goodness sake), the humans came running out to make sure everything was ok, Flo was shifted and I got some mealworms - result!)

oh ladies, (and hens), I surely needed a hearty laugh!!

I too have ONE girl that no matter what I do lays in her own very, very special spot where she has made a beautiful nest. "The Duchess" was appropriately named from day one! She thinks she is truly Royalty, and acts as such.

I figure, like you stated above, that if I destroy the nest or put something over it, then I'll have hell to pay trying to find the new nest. And Duchy would never forgive me.....and I simply couldn't handle THAT!

Cheers

Ma

One of mine did this for ages, then her sister followed her so I spent ages every day crawling through mud, nettles and brambles! The solution was to buy a cube! From day one, they both layed in the nest box- why I don't know - more comfortable? Have you tried putting a cat carrier next to where she lays and try to wean her into that?

( Phillipa here. Well, she must have been balmy to think we'd BOTH lay in that tiny eglu thing when we had our own nice spacious totally private nest with room for two with all mod cons ( grass to nibble, nettles, brambles for protection). When she FINALLY upgraded us to that first class penthouse in the sky - we thought, by jove, we've finally managed to teach her something.. such slow learners these hoomans... Keep it up Flo - we might just go back to the private nest from time to time - just to keep her on her toes and show who runs things round here, you understand. )

Hi Phillipa

I am glad to see you are keeping your hooman on her toes occasionally, afterall why make it easy for them? thats waaay too boring.

The cube is lovely I have to admit and I do like to lay there occasionally but there is just something special about my nest in the bush and what do I care if she who wears the orange crocs gets a few wet t shirts??? her in the orange crocs complains but I told her if she had feathers like me there wouldn't be a problem... silly hooman!

I laid my egg in the nestbox today just to confuse her, she went to the bush first, I did giggle.

Hen power to us that like to be different is what I say.

Hi Polly

That's right we can't be too predictable can we!.. ;)

Mr Orange Crocs came out with a machine today frightened me a bit  it made all my lovely grass shorter, I told him I dont need help doing that but he didn't hear me. I think he needs the feathers cleaning out his ears.

I might just lay my egg in a totally different place tomorrow just to pay them back for all the noise.... and they think I make a noise... hmph!!!!!!!!!!
