David Beckham - Don't be put off by the title.

Recommended Posts

David Beckham has just signed a 5year deal with LA Galaxy in America which will start in August. The deal is worth £492,000 per week! 29.4million per year, just wages without sponsors etc. Is that ridiculous or what. My Mum worked out it's taken her lots of years to earn £492,000 and he will get it in just 1 week!

edit: Martin I've removed the number of years it took your Mum to earn that - I'm not sure she'd want everyone on forum to know that

Just one of the many reasons why football irritates me. the players get so much money for doing so little. that amount of money is just rediculous, how can they possibly justifty paying a single player that much. i know they will recoup more than that back from the stuff he will being doing for them as real madrid do now, but it really is a joke.

i could get right on my soap box about this.

David Beckham is SO over-rated. he's not what I would rate amongst the worlds best ever footballers.

With him and posh its all a money spinning scheme, they live the life of luxury and spend ridiculous amounts of money on ridiculous things. He doesnt even need the money the american team is offering him.

him and posh say that they hate the media - but they love them really, they love being on the front cover of magazines, - its "brand beckham", like with the perfumes and clothing ranges they have now. If the media left them alone for a few years - their popularity would dwindle somewhat.

yes, there is a lot of money in football now, but the beckham scenario isnt "normal" football. I dont deny that from a young age as an apprentice footballer he hasnt earned the right to a good living, but im sick to the back teeth of hearing about him and seeing his stupid pouting wife plastered all over the magazines and news. SKY news had the beckham story as an "alert" and the news headline tonight :shock:

Ridiculous.

They are going to the US to raise their global profile, so they can hang out with the LA celebrities and "best pal" Tom Cruise

As far as im concerned america is welcome to them :)

rant over - sorry

They are paid so much because 'we' the public, buy all the c**p they endorse, pay too much to go and watch them, buy magazines they appear in etc, etc.

I couldn't care two hoots what they are paid because I DON'T do any of the above, my money stays in my purse!

Sorry  rant over!

from a football addicts :D point of view I can see why they are paid a lot.

Careers are very short - once a footballer reaches early thirties now they are deemed past their prime, so they have to think about securing theirs and their families future. I suppose not everyone is as lucky as Beckham - the majority of players dont have the high profile and endorsements/celebrity out of football he has.

nasty injuries to a young healthy player can also end a career in football.

some players are worth every penny

I think going to the USA could be their downfall, yes he may make buckets of money, but I can,t see them liking the lifestyle after a while, whenever posh is interviewed she seems quite down to earth, but she portrays a stuck up miserable so and so, when you see her in the mags. when they realise what they,ve done it will be too late and all his fans will have forgotten him back here! I may be wrong. American football teams are c..p anyway!!!

No footballer is worthy of being paid more in a week than a nurse, teacher, doctor, fireman, policeman etc earns in a year......

As for career ending injuries, they surely pay a small percentage of their over-inflated salaries into an insurance plan, which would allow them to live comfortably in their retirement (heaven help they go and get a proper job, should their football career end prematurely)

Posh Spice....what is she for exactly?

Ugly as sin and as plastic as can be.

PS she's got a very ugly mouth and a fat nose.....I wonder why she hasn't consulted her plastic surgeon about them?

And as for her weight issues ...

....and her pregnancy advice....who would read that....apart from Vicky Pollard??!!

And "Posh" she ain't.

Sorry....they bring out the worst in me. AAAAARRRRRGH!

So are dancers careers short lived you dont see them getting paid that much.

If it was 2 million a year it wouldn't be so quite so bad thats enough to live a very comfortable life and save for the second half of your life but 25 million far too much and theres still a huge difference between the two amounts. Plus whats to stop a footballer getting another job when they retire from football like any other normal person would do.

I don't particularly like 'Posh' (is she posh?) but try not to actually sl*g them off too much as they have 3 boys who probably love their parents no matter what and hurt when they read the stuff. After all brand Beckham is only what it is because we (the country not omletters) have made it that way.

I take your point...up to a point...Bronze, about the children.

I think though, that when these "celebrities" hold them selves up to be pundits, great beauties, fashion icons or whatever, they also put themselves up to be knocked off their perches by the public.

It is up to them to factor this into the equation, when considering what may come after they have opend their mouths, published an article, acted in a certain way etc.

Oooooooh, don;t get me started on Victoria Beckham - an appalling role model for any child - I don't care what she says, you simply cannot be that thin if you eat a proper balanced diet. Then she puts herself about to be photographed, and shown on the TV with stories like 'Posh loses the baby wieght 30 seconds after giving birth', and leaves impressionable, vulnerable young women (and men) under the impression that they simply aren't good enough because they ate that extra slice of toast for supper, or slobbed about in their PJ's for 2 weeks after giving birth, rather than going out for a 50 mile run with the personal trainer.

America is welcome to the pair of them....

Just to be controversial... (have I really spelt that right? :? ) - I think you can't blame David Beckham for accepting this money - who wouldn't :?:

As some previous posts have said - it's the public and media that have created him.. (and Posh, more on her in a moment  ). I have no problem with him being paid that much - as long as it's not me contributing to it in any way

BTW - I thought Beck's training academy was run for free for kids :?

I know he has set up one scheme which is completely free and the kids get all the gear and advice on nutrition etc as well as just kicking a ball around.....

As for Posh - well - I don't think I'm even going to comment as I agree with all you've said so far!!!

by saying some players are worth every penny - i dont mean Beckham. I cant stand him or her!

I mean "proper" footballers like John Terry, Thierry Henry, Steven Gerrard etc etc who are paid/earn nothing like Beckham, and they dont have their faces on the front of every magazine/paper, and try to live normal family lives. The Beckhams thrive on publicity and celebrity.

Im just speaking from a football fans point of view
