Guest
He saw an infomercial yesterday for "Adopt a Lion" from the Born Free Foundation. Now he is saying he wants a lion for Christmas. He does seem to understand that the lion wont live here (Although he did say we have a "pet zoo") and that we won't get to visit the lion. I asked him should I tell Santa that he wants a lion instead of a PSP and he said that I should. Mum's actually bought the PSP so I can buy the lion instead of the movies I was going to get him. Restores some of my faith in humanity - in the past I bought goats etc on behalf of my tutor group but TBH I can't face the sneering this lot would give me over that. A chickychickychick-ENN!!
Ha! The Cuteness!!! You could get him a small stuffed lion to remind him of his big lion in the wilds, maybe? He sounds so cute!!!
henriette
Such a nice request. Do they send pictures of a lion and all the info? Years ago my daughter wanted to adopt a hippo at Whipsnade Zoo. It was great fun when the info package arrived. She was about 7 at the time and didn't stop talking about "her" hippo ! I don't know how old your little lad is, but if he really likes lions I am sure it will be a fantastic gift for him
Ain't Nobody Here
I "bought" leopard triplets from Born Free for my YS a few years ago for his birthday . He was delighted with it - we got an info pack about them and a really nice photo (which I put into a frame). I think he got a cuddly toy too . Busybird
I got my kids a WWF adoption pack a couple of years ago. They got an orang-a-tang, a dolphin and a polar bear between them. The gift came with a cuddly toy, picture of their animal and some information. They then got a newsletter update on their animal three times a year. We have maintained the adoptions because they love receiving the updates and show a real interest in the problems faced by the animals and the work being done to try to help them. This worked much better than the pony my DD sponsors at the Blue Cross. Because she can actually visit this animal she is forever pestering me to take her there (4 hour round trip) so that she can groom and pet it for half an hour . C&T
I was bought a Reindeer last year - was a brilliant pressie! Got to visit him in the Cairngorms, and hand feed them etc. Lovely animals. Considering we live in Surrey, it made a great excuse for a lovely 2 weeks exploring the Highlands. Beautiful place! And jealous of all those that live there. Snowy
Awww, how lovely! I adopted a wolf for OH a couple of years ago. He got to visit them and took 'his wolf' for a walk with the rest of the pack!

Guest
Thanks all - he is still adamant today that it is a Lion he wants. He is happy for it to be a lion in Africa - Colchester zoo would be a nice idea for some animals but I always feel very sorry for the big cats. The dilemna now is where to get one - Born free don't do it with a cuddly one - which he would like although their lion looks very nice. They don't even sell a cuddly one except as part of a membership package which is the same price agian as the adopted one.
henriette
amazon.co.uk do lots of lion toys if that helps

Guest
NO that would be suporting them - I'd rather not see them in zoo's - safari parks yes but there are such sad looking souls at Colchester Zoo. I do actually like zoos in general although I have to say Colchester are rather difficult at times - you can buy any food you want as long as it's junk and it's nigh on impossible to warm a bottle there without hiking right across the zoon. PurpleTree
I've adopted a Basking Shark for Daniel for Christmas, well it seems we've adopted a group of them. It's through the Sharks Trust. Had all the stuff through, a nice certificate, a poster with all the British Shark Species, lots of leaflets on various sharky things, a keyring, a few postcards, and a couple of copies of their magazine. It's a bit old for him really, but he's got a real interest in sharks and I'm sure he'll enjoy looking at the pictures and reading little bits about them. I think he gets the magazine sent throughout the year too.
