lou-lou
Hi Went to put my 4 bantams away tonight, and found my first egg laid just inside eglu on bars, hope this is not a silly question but how long are eggs " fresh" for? regards lou-lou
Space Chick
Congratulations Eggs are usually fresh for around 3 weeks. However, if you are unsure, put the egg in a glass of water, if it floats its off, if it sits on the bottom put points up best to eat it straight away, if it sits on the bottom it is super fresh
Chucky1
Congrats LoyLou - there's nothing quite like the first one. I hope you enjoy it. I'd guess and it is a guess (from looking at supermarket sell by dates) about three weeks. Though over six months or so of chicken keeping we haven't had an egg longer than 6 days. There is a good test in the omlet literature that comes with the house. If you put the egg in a glass of water, then: - sinks to the bottom, its fresh as ... - sinks to about midway, its a couple of days old - floats, it's rotten apparently it relies on the amount of gas in the air sac. Good luck Paul

Lavenders_Blue
I'm sure I read somewhere that if you are selling eggs you should put a use by date of 28 days after laying on the box (presumably from the date of the oldest egg, rather than labelling each egg individually!). But I would agree that the glass of water test will give you a more accurate indication of freshness as 28 days seems an awfully long time to me...
