Angels4
I let the ladies sleep in whilst I went to the grocery to pick up some supplies. I was just out letting the girls out and snow has blown in through the ventilation holes nearest to where you open the door. I don't want to cover the ventilation holes but I also don't want to have cold, wet, snow blowing about inside the cube whilst the girls are roosting. Does anybody have any ideas? sjp
you need something like this :- http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.jsp?action=detail&fh_secondid=9271855&fh_reftheme=promo_159030003%2cseeall%2c%2f%2fcatalog01%2fen_GB%2fcategories%3c%7b9372015%7d%2fcategories%3c%7b9372046%7d%2fcategories%3c%7b9372182%7d%2fspecificationsProductType%3dplastic_ducting&fh_view_size=10&fh_start_index=40&fh_location=%2f%2fcatalog01%2fen_GB%2fcategories%3c%7b9372015%7d%2fcategories%3c%7b9372046%7d%2fcategories%3c%7b9372182%7d%2fspecificationsProductType%3dplastic_ducting%2ffeaturesBrand%3dMarley&fh_eds=%c3%9f&fh_refview=lister&ts=1261317525838&isSearch=false the air gets in from the bottom but keeps the rain/snow out don't know how you'd make one to fit
Patricia W
My Neff double wall oven has vent covers like that - they are plastic and just clip on. So maybe try a shop which sells kitchens? Or make some out of stiff card/plastic?? Tricia
Plum
Would some garden fleece draped over work?
Jools
One of my larger houses had the same problem (I don't think it was made with the driving rain, snow and hail we endure up here at this time of year!!) so I fixed a bit of rubber mat along the edge of the roof so that it covered the ventilation gaps, but was about 3 or 4 inches away from them so that air could still circulate but the weather couldn't get in. I don't know if this would work on a Cube though?
Angels4
Thanks Jools, I tried this out last night and it worked a charm. Now I've just got to go get some more straw bales to act as a wind break and to stop the snow drifting into the run.
Jools
Glad it worked for you. I beginning to think the snow here will never thaw, it's been over two weeks now and it's frozen so hard now, my chickens have learned to ice skate too! Still, it's better than horizontal rain and very pretty to look at.
