craftyhunnypie
It's great for beginners & comes with 2 balls of wool & good quality crochet hook... it's only 99p for the 1st issue. Bargain! I can already crochet, but it was worth it just for the hook & there is a nice pattern in it for a crochet cover up tunic. Basically, you make a square each issue & sew them all together to make a huge blanket. Just thought I'd share my bargain! Oh & it's called The Art of Crochet. Ygerna
eeek, another magazine subscription coming up I feel. Thanks for the headsup!
craftyhunnypie
This one is on a large piece of cardboard. Be careful, as there is a ' Let's get crafting' magazine / kit pack out as well - but that is £7.99! I got the 99p mag / starter kit from WH Smith, oh & it comes with a DVD. It was near the till. Just avoid the half price chocolate oranges! Emma.x
carrie
I bought it too the other day, have been wanting to crochet for some time, I was going to buy a book. Saw the magazine and thought that would do. Will probably buy the next one at £1.99 but not when it goes up to the full price, it comes out every week as well. I have tried the stitches and eventually managed the triple crochet, I was very pleased with myself, my family didn't share my enthusiasm, even offered to turn it into a mobile phone cover for DD's new phone, she just gave me a 'look' Have you seen a website called attic24 it is very inspirational. Ms Marple
I love Attic24- she always brightens up my day! I learnt to crochet from her blog, especially flowers to use as a brooch or corsage.
carrie
I want to try flowers too but she says to do so many stitches first and then join, but I don't know how to join!!! Any ideas
Cooks
I am really wanting to get it but not mobile at the moment, is it available online?
craftyhunnypie
To join, poke your hook through the end stitch of say the chain ( for example), pull the loose wool through both the stitch that was originally on the hook & the one you just poked into....ta da..joined & one loop on your hook. I have Attic24 as one of my web favourites. I look at her blog nearly every day. I just love the colours of wool she uses together. I've done the square from that mag, I call it my popcorn square. I'm doing a quick scarf now, then probably a pram blanket or cushion. My new years resolution is to do a square a week & join them up next Xmas to make a blanket. On a whole it's to knit & crochet a lot of nice things. Emma.x

Spot on just what I was going to say!!. I practised loads tho to get it right and even now I sometimes forget the difference between the stitches and have to look it up. I tried making my flowers lots of ways experimenting with the wool types. I was confident enought then to do something based on that for my SS pressie and was bowled over when the recipient said they liked it
Ygerna
I am really wanting to get it but not mobile at the moment, is it available online? I have ordered it on subscription. You get some free gifts too. They send them in batches of 4. http://www.theartofcrochet.com

Blackrocksrock
I just had to dig myself out of almost 2 feet of snow to get my car out and down the village to buy this one - its worth the 99p as the wool and hook are worth much more and the blanket throw looks wonderful. May just have to subscribe to this one.
ali-s
I nearly bought a copy of the magazine today when I was in town but the queue in WHS was soooo long. I would like to subscribe to the magazine and I have been on the website but can't find out how often the direct debit is yearly?, monthly? quarterly? Am I being really thick Does any one know? (about the direct debit not if I am thick )
Cooks
I have been told they send you 4 weeks worth of subscriptions ever month. there is however nearly 200 subscriptions I believe so it could work out mighly expensive... PLus I read that they send you ring binders when they think you need them at £4.99 a pop aswell. Kind of them to spend your money like that.. I am just getting a few to give me an idea

Blackrocksrock
http://www.crochettoday.com/how-to This seems to be the americal equivalent and there are lots of patterns and good videos there too if people did not wish to buy the mag. I will buy it as I see it in the shop as dont want any binders - have loads of them at home without buying more esp at £4.99 normal price £9.99 eek. It seems a great magazine for all that though and the dvd is very explicite with its tuition. All in all a great buy. http://www.coatsandclark.com/Crafts/Crochet/Projects/Seasonal /WC1794+Christmas+Angel+and+Crochet+Ball+Ornaments.htm anyone seen this site and these are wonderful
Cooks
I have had mum on the case and she's called to tell me she's got me the magazine and will drop it in to me tomorrow.. where would I be without her sometimes. I agree Blackrocksrock I have enough binders already and feel they should be an 'option' not just sent when they feel like it. The gifts do not encourage me to subscribe.... Guest
I got it today, it's very good with a DVD and easy to follow instructions. Well, I say easy but I'm left handed so it took a bit of working out how to do it back to front I've only done a foundation chain so far cos Mollster decided to sit on my chain! http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=4294949&l=eab9d1821e&id=568396756 http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=4294951&l=1d82e6a8fb&id=568396756

craftyhunnypie
I've done my square & have also nearly made a scarf from another mag that was £7.99. Luckily it was a present that was bought for me - so it didn't cost me anything ,but my time. Next project is a nice round cushion & a garland, to brighten up my room - now the Xmas decs are down. And to think that this time last year I couldn't crochet. It was last years resolution to learn & I conquered it! This year I'm aiming for a square or more a week & some nice crochet bits in every room, including the 2 caravans as well & maybe even the sheds / workshops.
