Having got home earlier today after an overnight long haul flight from California, I have nothing but respect for the Cabin Crew.

 

How they manage to keep smiles on their faces, and provide a great service for a 10 hr slog I'll never know.

 

I feel completely wrecked and yet there are wonderful people like Christian that do this for a day job. I don't know how they do it.

 

Well done Christian, and every other Flight attendant, you have my utmost respect

I dont know how they do it either I suspect they wear masks with smiles and underneath they are seething and cursing at us all

I have trouble keeping calm and Im just sat there so, yes, huge respect to them all

Yes they are great

 

It never fals to amaze me how some passengers cant stay civil and are so rude and demanding, I think if I was a flight attendant I would be handing out smiles and chocolate laxatives to those passengers

I think they are amazing as well, always happy and really polite.

I got offered a job years ago with a company called Flying Colours but had to turn it down,

my friends at work said that when I would be serving drinks it would have been

"one for you, one for me,two for you, two for me." They know me soooooo well!

And they are on the go all the time. I'm sure they have camouflaged paperclips to keep the smiles on! My favourite airline was Canadian Air - they took our 2 to the flight deck and they came back with a photograph of the plane after a chat with the captain - although that was from Toronto to Calgary, not quite as far. They did that with all the children who had never been to see the controls and the view from the windows. Wish I had gone!

I think they do a good job. It makes me annoyed how totally rude and ignorant a lot of passengers are. They think they're the only people in the World. The cabin crew manage to deal with a lot of hassle from the passengers, and I'd get serious sense of humour failure very quickly with some of them.

Yep I rememmer my brother and I being taken up to see the cockpit and meet the crew when we were kids, cabin crew are wonderful. I also remember a particularly bad night flight where there was a lot of turbulence and two very frightened small children - who were carried up and down in the crew's arms all night so that their parents could get some rest! The whole plane applauded when we landed - very well deserved too.

 

I do like the Italian custom of applauding every time the plane lands safely - it's recognition of jobs well done.

It's one job I could not do - I hate flying! It's nice that a lot of people appreciate what hard work it actually is.

I have only met people ruder than internal American flight host/esse/s in American post offices. It depends on the airline. Emirates and Virgin are honeybuns.

 

And yes, they do curse. They are professionals, definitely not angels! A night with a crew of trolley dollies can be a very fun, enlightening experience!

The majority of passengers are lovely tbh. It is only the odd one or two that drive you up the wall and they are few and far between.

 

It is a great job (if you like flying) and you get to see some amazing places. The down side is being away from home I don't know how longhaul do a 9 day trip

I find I'm always sitting next to the fidgets, but luckily haven't come across any pains in the bottoms yet - probably because I'm still sitting in my seat, belt on, white knuckles on the arm rests and gritted teeth (apart from when someone wants to move and then I have to stand up with gritted teeth and holding on for dear life).

I've never come across any pains either but that's cause ism usually sitting steadily going greener I get so air sick. It's amazing how fast the threat of being thrown up on will make people be pleasant and quiet

 

I've only ever met lovely flight attendants and i usually end up chatting with them for ages. I think i give off the frightened passenger vibe I'm not but the stress of knowing the nausea to come makes me look it

I don't travel an awful lot and have to say that the majority of flight attendants have always been very friendly. I don't think that I have ever caused any of them any hassle (I hope not anyway - I tend to be a fairly laid back passenger.)

 

That said, we came back from Dubai on Saturday and, whilst I have not complaints about the cabin crew, they were all a bit dour. I didn't see one smile from any of them and, when I took my headphones back and explained that they weren't working, I had another pair thrust at me without a word.

 

It didn't particularly bother me and, as others have said, I don't think that I would be able to smile for nearly eight hours so I don't blame them for that!

I must admit my last flight was to New York and on the way home I don't think one of them smiled once! When we got to the UK and were met by the 'home side' they all had big smiles on their faces and I have never been so happy to be back!

 

Have to say it might have been because I hated New York! None of them ever seemed happy!

Thankyou I am yet to meet anyone else who hated New York. I couldn't stand the place, thought everyone was rude and obnoxious, it was dirty and smelt funny, I didn't feel safe and couldn't wait to get out of there (although I did witness a drive by shooting which didn't help )

Have to say that when we travelled to Orlando Floriday when the kids were younger virgin were great on the way there, but on the way back they were horrible! my hubby put his back out in florida and therefore could only lay down flat so was upgraded (paid for by insurance) to upper class, only him I might add , I was still in economy with two young kids , well it was a night flight so I thought no prob they will be fine they can say goodnight to their dad and then go to sleep. NOPE the stewerdes would not let the kids in to see him to say goodnight even though he was the only person in upperclass at the time I was disgusted with them and told them so.

 

I did write to Virgin too when I got back and got a big apology. Nothing else though, I guess thats why Richard Branson's rich.

 

Luckily I do not long haul for my holidays normally, I prefer to stick to Europe.

I was only in New York last year, staying in central Manhattan (theatre/financial district area). I arrived the day after the election expecting at least SOME recognition of such an historic occasion but no, they treated it all as an unfunny joke. I agree Space Chick, they were rude and obnoxious and apart from seeing some really amazing architecture there, I cannot see what all the fuss is about.

 

I DID like Central Park though, and spent most of my time in there. Probably because my friend and I could get away from most of the people. It was also clean - unlike the streets.

 

I love America normally. I'm just not bothering to go to New York again!
