Morning all

I'm looking at getting Ex batts but the nearest collection point will be an 1hr 30mins round trip, I'm wondering what to put them in whilst transporting them in the car. Are the cardboard pet carriers suitable?

They are, as are cat baskets, although chickens are usually calmer when they are in the dark.

 

I just use an archiving box with air holes cut in it and a bungee to keep the lid on.

I use cat carriers to transport ex-batts and I'm a good hour away from the distribution centre. All of them have been fine - I've even had an egg laid for me .

We used cardboard boxes (with flaps) and put some straw in the bottom with air strips cut out of the box rather than holes.

If you make the airholes quite large and oblong and near the top on the 2 shorter sides they also become carrying 'handles'

I used cat carriers from the Atlas range - I was surprised at how heavy they were when full of chickens!

I just use cardboard boxes!

I used a cat carrier when I moved from London to Cumbria.

Three chooks were quite happy all bundled up together.

Cardboard boxes are absolutely fine so long as you have plenty of air holes. If its nice and dark in there the chooks will just quieten down and sleep for most of the journey anyway.

When are you getting them? You'd better let us know when you do

I use a cat carrier but have used cardboard boxes in the past

- one good thing is that you can get rid of them and any nasties that might be left behind

I used cat carriers for a 2 hour journey - they were fine.

I usually use a crisp box which is an ideal size for 2 chickens, once though i was desperate and the only crisp box i had was

roast chicken flavour!!!
