chickencam
There was a discussion about this on the radio last night quoting a survey done that said that in Britain we only change our sheet on average 3 times a year I change mine once a fortnight, it would be once a week but my OH is odd and doesn't like the feel of a crisp clean bed and moans that he can't sleep, so we have settled on that routine. I have to have smooth cotton sheets too.
chelsea
Every other Saturday. Clean bed sheets & clean pj's are my ideal combination and one of my "comforts" in life! I always use Northern Nights bedding and it is lovely.
jlo
How odd - I have just sent DS up to strip his bed as I came on and read this thread! Once a fortnight for me too. It sometimes varies to a shorter time span than that depending on days off and things. I don't think I would be able to keep up with doing once a week as I hate it. As it is, the fortnight comes around far too quickly!
Lavenders_Blue
Used to do it once a week (maybe I am OCD ) but we bought a new bed recently and have so far only bought one new set of bedding. So it's a bit of a mammoth job to get it all stripped off, washed, dried and put back on in a day. I still don't leave it longer than once a month though as it's waaaay overdue by then. The Dogmother
Once a week here. I like crisp cotton bedding too, nice and smooth.
dippy bird
weekly for me - I love fresh bedding! I love it best when it's been on the line in the sun - mmmm that smellllll.
kitchens
I wish I was disciplined enough to do it once a week but I don't. Probably every 2 weeks but sometimes longer . Both hubby and I shower/bath before bed so I suppose thats not too bad!! Funnily enough, i've stripped it off this morning and it is in the washing machine as I type!! Cinnamon
Alternate Sundays I launder either our bedding or the childrens I love fresh sheets too, especially if they have been snapping on the line all day & smell wonderful. I had always done them weekly until we had children....its easier to do 2 loads each Sunday than 4 every Sunday.
The Dogmother
One tip to keep your bed smelling sweet is to leave the covers turned back to air the bed for an hour each morning before you remake the bed.
Lavenders_Blue
One tip to keep your bed smelling sweet is to leave the covers turned back to air the bed for an hour each morning before you remake the bed. I always leave the covers turned back all day, as I remember Kim and Aggie saying that it helps kill the bed bugs. Apparently they love a warm, sweaty bed and breed prolifically in these conditions! Chucking the covers back dries it all out and circulates the air which they don't like. (Failing that, perhaps we could all try sprinkling red mite powder in our beds )
SarahJo
fortnightly - to weekly - tends to be more weekly in the summer, as easy to line dry Pjs are washed every 3-4 days though
C&T
Fortnightly! I think OH would do it daily if possible - but that's cos he likes the feel of a clean bed! I alternate weeks, so one week I get all the towels washed and dried, and the next week the bed linen. Often change the towels weekly - but they get washed only every other weekend. Keeps the wet laundry draped around the house to a minimum! 3 times a year - that does sound horrid... Perhaps the people completing the survey were first year uni students!! ClaireG
Fortnightly, I do our superking size one week (takes up a whole load!) and Adams double the next.
Cooks
we have three doubles in this house as the boys have a double bed each. so fortnightly is about it, unless nits summer and then they are sweaty bettys so sooner. I try to make sure that the colours on the beds are roughly the same solour load each wash, it doesn't always work, but handy to bung in lots together. chickencam
Glad too see that I am not alone in liking the fresh bed feel. I don't understand my hubby, he says that a fresh bed is like new shoes and needs wearing in My mum always changed the beds on a Wednesday come rain or shine. I used to hate coming home from school that day because I didn't like remaking my bed and she refused to do it. I still hate making beds up, especially high sleepers which both my girls have. My ED does her own most of the time, the other 2 make such a hash of it that it's easier for me to do it.
The Dogmother
Rosie 'can' do her own bed, but needs reminding
Cooks
my oldest does him without being asked but my youngest (Rosies age) no hope if asked he will get in such a tangle I fall about laughing...
Old Speckled Hen
Every week. I have two sets of everything, including mattress protector for our superking so that I can change it weekly even in winter. In summer the same lot goes back on straight off the line ........ wonderful I leave my covers thrown back all day and once the weather warms up the woollen duvet gets aired outside regularly. I couldn't imagine sleeping in bedding changed every FOUR months My step daughter once told me that her dad threw out his old bedding and bought new when I first came to stay Perhaps he was one of those
Egluntyne
Weekly here too. I also leave the bed stripped all day on bedmaking day, to let some fresh air into the mattress. I absolutely hate changing duvet covers. The worst job ever.
chelsea
I absolutely hate changing duvet covers. The worst job ever. Agreed. In fact I would rather clean my oven than change my sheets (given the option of course )
The Dogmother
Couldn't agree more - trying to change a king sized duvet cover on your own when you're only 5'1" is murder. I usually get Rosie to help, or do it if Phil is around. On sunny days all the duvets hang out to air once a week. When I swap over the winter and summer duvets, the ones I am putting away go to be laundered first.
Old Speckled Hen
Agreed. Cooks
I dont mind it, I put the duvet covers on with the inside out method and since realising I can put them on that way it's a breeze, I have fitted bottom sheets, it doesn't take long. chickencam
Even though I hate bed changing I would rather that than oven cleaning It's dusting I really detest.
The Dogmother
I don't mind any house work at all, just resent that I don't have enough time in the week for it all.
