Snowy
She is a very very sad springy at the moment. She was spayed on Monday - had her last season 3 months ago and wasn't showing any signs of phantom pregnancy. But at her pre-op check the vet noticed she had a bit ofmilk coming from her nipples They went ahead with the spay as it was only mild and she wasn't showing any other signs. We had a check up 3 days later, still milk but not much else. Instead she waits until the vets close for the weekend and goes into full on maternal mode! She's hoarding squeaky toys; nesting on the settee and looking so thoroughly miserable with herself Her boobies are huge and milky. I've just had a 40mile round trip to collect some Galastop for her so she is now on meds to dry up her milk. She's worrying her wound - I tried a bumper collar made from bubble wrap but she managed to still get at her wound. We now have the 'collar of shame' on, but she still manages to stretch out and lick herself. Gaaahh! This dog is determined to make herself miserable!! Just about to ring round and see if anyone has an old babygro I can try on her.

Chucky Mama
Oh dear, we always postponed spaying dogs that had milk Poor Candy, they do always do this sort of thing at the weekend though don't they
Snowy
Oh dear, we always postponed spaying dogs that had milk Poor Candy, they do always do this sort of thing at the weekend though don't they Thats what the vet said, as the swollen glands can get in the way when they operate, but hers weren't swollen at the time so they went ahead And I've just checked her again and her wound is now weeping - aaaaaaaaaaaah! - this is not going to be an uneventful recovery is it? I've dressed it and she now has a babygro on. That has really foiled her as now she can't get to it at all! Just a thought - it is better that she doesn't lick it if it's weeping isn't it? Or could the licking be good for it? Another trip to the vets on Monday I think!

Chucky Mama
Reducing food intake helps to reduce the amount of milk that she produces and don't be tempted to squeeze to see how much milk she has as it will make her produce more. It is annoying as increasing exercise is good too but of course you can't do that
Seagazer
Poor Candy, she sounds like she's really going through it. I hope the wound gets better. Cookie went through a phantom pregnancy after her first season and she was so depressed, she didn't eat properly for ages afterwards. It was such a relief to get her spayed. Snowy
Thanks Chucky Mamma - will try the salt bathing. Here she is in her baby vest - the neck hole is over her bum so she can still do her business, and the longer side of the vest is under her tum. I had to tie some strips of fleece to the vest flaps and then onto her collar to stop it slipping off Doesn't look very happy does she? Cooks
oh bless her heart, she remind me of jessie when she was spayed... I did the same thing theres a pic of Jess in her baby vest legs akimbo somewhere.. When suzi was spayed she had milk in the weeks beforehand but they would not spay her with milk so we were told they would have to postpone if necessary, luckily it cleared. Snowy
Bless her! I think it's definitely a spaniel look - those eyes and the droopy ears! Candy has finally had to be caged today - caught her on the dining table this morning!! Then she was leaping on and off the settee every time anyone passed the house. No wonder her wound is oozing! I was worried that she would sulk but she has actually stayed very calm, came out for a wee and a drink and went back in again. She is now back in her cage by choice and the door is open! Seagazer
Its amazing how quickly they recover from the operation isn't it. We had one who jumped a dog gate on the utility room door and then jumped the stair gate. Mind you she ended up catching a stitch and had to have it stapled back up. Cooks
I tried with everything in me to keep Suzi still after her op I am sure they save up all their spare energy before the op just so they can charge around like loons afterwards.
Snowy
OH took her to the vets this morning and she now has antibiotics as well as galastop.
