Planted some 'sweet dumpling' squash, more spinach, swiss chard and basil.

I have planted a row of Nicola potatoes and some French banana shallots tonight- both reduced at the garden centre- As i have already planted onions and shallots and seed potatoes- I had to make room for them both!! too good a bargain to miss!!!

I hope to sow more seed this weekend !

I am so glad I have my allotment- when things are tough at work - I focus on planning , planting and even being there

After quite a disappointing crop of potatoes last year, I vowed not to do any this year. Saw a bag of Kind Edward seed potatoes in Poundland and couldn't resist, so they will go in tomorrow.

my potatoes aren't in yet - I'm hoping I can have the potato bed ready for planting by the weekend. I did sow stacks of beetroot today and some radishes

We haven't finished planting ours out either SS - they'll all catch up. Our ground went from swamp to concrete in a matter of days - I'm having to water weeds so that I can pull them out.

our salad spuds are in and the 2nd earlies are going in this weekend...it's not time yet to plant the main crop ones is it?

Are Desiree maincrop?

If so mine went in a week or so ago,as they were well chitted.

I am sure they went in around the same time last year too.....

Yep, Desiree are main crop. Most main crop can go in from now until the end of May. Have the bed ready and subject to hayfever will get planting later......

Hubby found a HUGE half barrel the other week,so I used all my broken pots (heaps of them after the snow!) as drainage,& the Desiree have gone in there

I find Desiree the most tasty of all potatoes, it makes great rosties and wedges.

 

As usual I think we have plated too many spuds, we have 8, 30ft rows which is more than last year and we atill have a couple of sacks of spouting potatoes in the garage from last year. We put all of ours in a couple of weeks ago, but i am beginning to think that we are going to have to water them all, or they just won't come up. We have very sandy soil at the allotment which dries out very quickly.

we planted all our spuds at the same time last year but then we were overloaded so we're staggering it this year.

 

mind you, last year we did send off for loads of those free potatoes and we bought too many seed potatoes but you live and learn, we're being more conservative this year!

Do you know,I was only thinking today that with all the free seeds & stuff you get with magazines & various offers,you could probably do without buying any at all.

 

I have heaps,although I didn't get any free spuds......but I still over bought on those & have several to put on Freecycle.

Started trying to pop in the broad beans but my goodness the grumpy birds whinged non-stop because they couldn't get into the veggie patch. So I've come back indoors and ordered some blueberries to grow on the patio.

Planted the potatoes today! Only 10, but that'll do for us. They have a raised bed to themselves.

beetroot

 

repotted a gooseberry

 

and set up the watering system as the soil is so dry. It'll rain now

It's like a dust bowl isn't it? Unfortunately the garden is now solid everywhere except for the veg beds now. Try and dig in a border and boing go the tines.

sowed some mizuna seeds next to the chard and doodled a garden plan in paint shop!

Herbs here too,even though I picked up a really great herb plant pack from Aldi yesterday.

Basil,Coriander & Parsley ....My chives from last year are looking amazing too

Onions starting to show, garlic about 7 inches tall , spuds all in and earlies starting to show. Peas in last weekend (under fleece) same with carrots parsnips swede beetroot and spring onions.

Sprouts and tomato seedlings doing well. Waiting for courgettes, cabbage, calabrese and purple sprouting, pak choi and basil, cauliflower, chiilies and can't remember what else!

I have 8 raised beds and lots of pots and grow bags and planters and a greenhouse.

No beans this year as no-one eats them!
