jlo
I am dog sitting for a friend and currently have a very smelly retriever looking longingly at me. We have just been for a decent walk and I am going to have to leave him for a couple of hours whilst I go out. My question is a daft one really but - are dogs ok if you aren't talking to them and fussing them all the time? I guess that they are but I have no experience of having a dog around for very long and I just feel guilty when I am on here or about to do my chores. Thanks
BarbaraJ
Lol i'm sure he will be fine, they don't know what your saying anyway you just being around would be company enough i'm sure (though don't have a dog). Would probably stick it in the bath though lol, don't do smelly dog
The Dogmother
It will be fine, just like children really, get on with your usual stuff and let him out for a wee every now and then.
Chucky Mama
Don't worry, the more fuss you give him the more fuss he will expect. It will then be a bigger wrench if you do go out. Our neighbours dogs run them ragged demanding to play football all day etc. They give in and consequently don't get a minutes peace. When we have them to stay we ignore their demands and they sleep all day Our neighbours don't believe us
Snowy
If you are worried about it though, you could get him something to chew to occupy him, either while you are out, or to entertain him if he wants a fuss all the time. Dogs can be a bit like children, some are happy to entertain themselves for a while, but they all benefit from some attention or something to keep their minds occupied. Luckily once they've had a walk, most of them are happy to snooze the day away!

Chicktastic
I have 5 springers and a terrier, although springers have bad press for being too hyper, it is true that dogs adapt to the lifestyle. Mine plod round and sleep a lot through the day!! I'm sure your house guest will be just fine left to his own devvices for a while!!

Please post some pics of them - I'd love a houseful of springers. They have a definite knack of decorating a sofa
jlo
He was a little cherub! We had two lengthy walks when he came back covered in mud and didn't complain too much at being hosed down. DD hads four friends round this afternoon who were great with him. I really miss him now that he has gone home! Thanks everyone for your feedback - all very reassuring. I knew that this would be the place to come!
