BeckyBoo
.....bit concerned, noticed at the weekend that I was overdue worming the chooks so added the flubenvet yesterday to start them off and noticed one of the ex-batts hunched in the corner. Went to get her but she scuttled off so I thought she was ok. About half an hour later she'd taken herself into the hidey-hole in the hay bales and when I came back from work she was gone. She hadn't been ill previously that I knew about it was the first I knew that anything was wrong. So today went to do the chooks this morning, another ex batt looking a bit sad. Checked her and could find nothing particular, anyway, came home from work early and she's died in the nest. Neither were underweight, were previously completely healthy looking. I've had between 5 and 7 eggs a day from what was 14 chooks and is now 12 which, considering most are getting on or are ex-batts I think is pretty good - have had 8 today so generally they seem healthy enough. I'm hoping it's just a coincidence and it's just two ex batts who've had a hard life and have come to the end of their natural journey. Anyone else got any ideas? Chucky Mama
Sorry to hear that Becky. It may just be a coincidence but there is a procedure for reporting possible adverse drug reactions: http://www.vmd.gov.uk/General/Adverse/animal2.pdf Your supplier should be able to provide the necessary yellow form if you decide to report it. staceychristie
Didn't think Flubenvet was a drug? Hope the rest are OK, they do worry us at times. Hugs Stacey X
BeckyBoo
I don't think it's the flubenvet, I've used it lots of times before and had no problems, oh well, will just have to watch and wait.... BeckyBoo
Chucky Mama
I don't think it's the flubenvetBeckyBoo I would be very suprised if it was to blame.
Lydia
Sorry to hear of your losses Becky. I'm sure it was probably just coincidence and your 2 hens were exhausted. I'm sure there's nothing you could have done. We lost 2 girls last week too, one of whom was an ex-batt who was fine and dandy and laying one day and then fluffed up and terribly ill the next. She was dead in a few days.

Olly
Sorry to hear it - my guess would be just coincidence, too. They don't give you much warning of being ill, and if they were both ex-batts then there's always the chance that they'd got some underlying weakness from their hard times at the battery farm. It does make you nervous when two go close together, though.
sandyhas3chucks
That IS sad Becky, were they from the same release? I had 2 PTS sleep last year, one one day , one the next both different things ailing, but it happens like that sometimes it seems, were thary bay any chance best friends? Keep a beady eye on the others (sure you will) and whip em to Fred if you are worried, (he's away this weekend tho )
