All I want for spring is... a LAWN!

Recommended Posts

since having my girls (6 months) I've discovered that my "lawn" was in fact mostly moss....I'm hoping that as the girls have done a pretty good job of raking up the moss, this will allow the rest of the grass to grow and spread a bit---so I'm hoping for a *better* lawn now :lol:

I wonder if I'm deluding myself!!!

I should really get an updated picture of mine, just don't go expecting grass -lol DH has laid a path of paving stones down to the chicken area and we have chipped wood from the tree surgeon on either side up to the plant edging logs thingy. Doesn't look very glamorous but at least it's not a mud bath now. We keep pondering the idea of raised veg beds there but the cost of sorting them out is stopping us at the moment.

We moved our Eglu around the grass weekly and the grass seemed to recover inbetween as we had about 7 spots for it, but when we put the run extension on it limited the places we could site the Eglu and the grass was looking a bit the worse for wear :(

We found that the worst damage was done overwinter so last autumn we extended the back patio & put the girls on that for the winter, so this year we're starting with the grass looking quite good. I'll keep you posted on how it goes this year. We found the Omlet netting to be fab for keeping the girls off bits we reseeded last year, obviously we only had 3 girls so I guess that the more you have the more damage they cause :?

Funnily enough we've been planning a landscaping scheme this very afternoon!

We got our girls in October and we were thinking that the lawn was surviving quite well - until a couple of weeks ago that is - there is now no lawn - just mud!

We're thinking a few raised beds & gravel - lots of gravel!

Lots of gravel  wouldn't they jusk kick that everywhere ??

We still have grass as i decided to fence of an area permanently

the front bit next to fence is muddy as the end of the omlet netting (entrance) used to be there, but the grass on the lower level is fine. Their fenced in part is mud now with woodchip on it. I can imagine the whole of the garden would have been mud if they have full FRing

I HAVE LOTS OF GREEN GRASS :lol::lol:

Have spent the last 2 weeks landscaping the garden, and yesterday finished laying the turf.

It looks amazing 8)8) and the Girlies are not allowed on it until I come back from my holidays, so should have 4 weeks to enjoy the gareden until it is destroyed again  :lol

Have given them a bit of turf for their garden but oh no they want mine, and are shouting every time they see me but I will be strong, I WANT MY GARDEN.

I've got a large area fenced off that I'm cultivating grass on  I bought a sack of that poultry grass last October that produced a very thin covering but it was late in the year to be sowing it. Yesterday I went over it again with the remainder of the sack so hopefully in a few weeks it'll look much better. The hooligans will be allowed nowhere near it but I'll allow any broodies and their chicks limited access to it. It's for the kids to enjoy over the summer, not the chickens!
