I've got a poster in the car and leafleted our road - like you say, any excuse for candles, whether I can get the smallies to abstain from the goggle box is another matter.... It was lovely - no background electric hum (apart from the pump for the fish-tank, I wasn't switching them off) sat with the children, put them to bed by candle and moonlight, then sat in the silence and read my book. ED read a book and I played Monopoly with DS and YD. Naughty hubby however, played his 'puter ED switched on a side lamp when the hour was over, as she was having problems reading, but we played the game until about 10:30pm by candle light and it was lovely. Of course mother left every light on in her house even though she was sat at the dining table with us. It was our excuse for emptying so many bottles.. ED read by candlelight and OH & DS played chess by candlelight and OH kept falling asleep between moves We went to bed when they had finished, because all that peace and quiet and darkeness made us sleepy and we decided that we were losing an hour that night anyhow.
