Madchook
It is the end of day 19 and my poly incubator is tweeting!! I last candled yesterday morning before putting in a bigger glass of water and 6/6 of the Indian Game had made it and were still moving (v. impressed for ebay eggs) and 3/6 Red Dorking. I don't have a clue what hatch rate to expect - do you normally get some non-hatchers that have made it that far? Hehe, if they all hatch I am going to be very...busy They are due to hatch on Saturday and unfortunately we will be out with the inlaws..rubbish, I want to sit and watch!!! Chick-a-doodle-doo
ooh, exciting! good luck.. I think I would have to sit and watch. Can't the inlaws come to you? I've still got 9 days till ours hatch.. I'm living in here!
Madchook
We only see them a couple of times a yr. MIL is a Mrs Bucket, honestly, obsessed with cleanliness and doesn't like 'critters'. The stress of having her come to my house just ain't worth it! (and hahaha, what would she make of chicks in the kitchen?!)
half dozen
she might be won over by them!!
Madchook
Day 20 - biggest egg (Dorking) has pipped!!! Can't wait to see what they will look like
Griffin
When I had a mix of breeds including Dorkings in my incubator it was the Dorkings who were first to hatch. They arrived a day before everyone else, they're impatient!
Madchook
Griffin! Could you sex them at hatching? I didn't realise you were meant to be able to, but just read a link that showed the girls having dark heads and it said you could do it with all Dorkings??? I now have an IG pipping too...maybe they will be out before I have to go out tomorrow

Griffin
You should be able to sex the Dorkings. A bit like in Cream Legbars, the girls are much darker than the boys. Mine were the shameful blue egg laying Dorking types from Ebay so their markings weren't as clear as 100% pure bred Dorkings but they were still fairly easy to sex. The girl is in the top left, the other two were boys: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v130/phoebejo/The%20Farm/DSC03934.jpg
Madchook
Oh cool, well premature Dork hatched! I wasn't checking all that often as I thought it would be a while - only to find it totally hatched within 40 minutes! It is very dark down the back and looks like it will be on its head so I am hoping it is a girl! DD has named it. Sausage Thanks for the pics Griffin, helps alot! Griffin
My youngest daughter named our Salmon Faverolle Sausage It kind of suits her now, I can't think of her as anything else
Madchook
I posted this query on too and most said 'probably not' - I have msg'd the breeder as he should know! Not that it matters to be, boys will be raised for dinners anyhow, but it will mean I can let DD name the girls something other than 'dinners'...saying that she has a bit of a food theme going anyway
Madchook
ahhh, so I am not allowed to put two p's next to eachother in here now?!
Chucky Mama
ahhh, so I am not allowed to put two p's next to eachother in here now?! I discovered this yesterday. Took me a while to figure out why a had appeared instead of the letters doesn't seem to be happening now though - oh yes it does, but only if you put in capital letters
Madchook
Sausage has splayed leg I left it in the incubator until just a minute ago, another Dork hatched just after I went to bed last night too. Just put them in the brooder and hobbled Sausage with half a plaster. I wasn't sure whether to do it yet, but one leg was out sideways to such a degree there can't be any doubt. Anyway, it has kinda worked, it can stand just about and isn't constantly on its back/tummy...but I haven't been able to get it on its foot...I am just hoping that will follow once it gets muscle. ad to shove them under the leccy hen, they are a bit clueless! So that is two Dorkings on day 20, 6 IG and one Dork still cooking, due today but not cheeping, moving or pipping. Maddy is paranoid.com! Oh, breeder reckons you can't sex the reds reliably. Someone on another forum reckoned the gene pool is so small as they are so rare, that they will have all sorts in them Not surprised the things are rare tbh, only 50% made it to full term and look at the stress they are causing me! Madchook
Time lapse photography of no2, not anywhere near as good as we hoped, the humidity spike when it hatched steamed up the window And yes, these are all seperate photos and it did get back in its egg twice!! Prob going to try again later
