Cinnamon
I have used OE for ever, but as I use Firefox,I thought about switching to Thunderbird - anyone else on it? Or can you recommend another one to me? One thing - I need to be able to set it up so that Hubbys emails go to his phone & here to the computer........ Oh, & my email address is not with my email server,if that makes a difference. Spent the last hour trawling through the sites, but thought I would ask here too as you all know so much about stuff like this One more thing - I may be up for a change of email address also - any recommended places to look at for that? Geoid
Thunderbird is great, easy to use, nice to look at. You will need some details such as the POP3 server etc. If you set up emails on the phone and computer, copies can be sent to both (I think this is done automatically). For emails, Google Mail is the way to go!
Ain't Nobody Here
I use Thunderbird and really like it (although my forum notifications sometimes come through aaages later - long after I've read the replies on the forum ).

debbier
Sorry, I don't quite get what are you trying to do, exactly? You want an extra google mail account? With your husband's email, do you want it to be able to be picked up on his phone and his pc?
Cinnamon
OK, we all have seperate email addresses with tesco.net - want shot of those & want them somewhere else, maybe. I have a GMail account, with 1 email address, but don't know or can't see if you can have more than 1 address on one account. I have OE,but want to change to Thunderbird. Hubby needs his emails to go to his phone and the home computer...don't ask me why
Purplemaniacs
My OH changed my email to Thunderbird, he said it was better, he knows more about these things than I do. It took me a little while to get used to it but now I am quite happy with it. DS uses it too and he has his email on his phone and on the computer. Good luck with what ever you decide to use. I maintain around 4, but just use the web mail interface to access them. I have enough POP collected mail addresses too! I've not used it, but there is a FF addon which supposedly can make it easier to manage multiple gmails. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1320 I have an ipod touch gmail interface, which works well. That doesn't use POP, though, so synchronization isn't an issue. If your hubby used the web interface then the messages could be selectively deleted manually. Otherwise, you might have a look at using IMAP , which google does apparently now support for free. http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=75725 Last time I checked this was a paid extra: I must re-investigate! docsquid
I use Thunderbird. It is quicker than Outlook but with more of its functionality than Outlook Express. You can use it to download or send from multiple e-mail accounts, whether they are from a web-based provider like Google, or another ISP, or a company, provided you can give it the correct settings. It does have a few limitations: It is harder to send a bcc to a mailing list than in Outlook, and you have to employ a fudge to do it. Not a problem unless you need to do this, which I do. On balance I prefer it to OE. It isn't quite as powerful as Outlook, but it does the job and is much faster and much more stable than Outlook. WitchHazel
Thunderbird is excellent. I have several different personal email accounts (one gmail, one attached to a website, and one with another provider), and I have two different business emails. I manage them all through Thunderbird. I don't use POP3, I use IMAP. This means that a copy of the message is left on the server, and I find this works better for me as I access my email on my laptop, my Palm Pre, and also occasionally on a Netbook. Everythign is kept in sync, so when I delete a mail in one, it's gone from all of them. If I read a mail on one, it is marked as read on all of them, etc etc etc. All you need to do is set up separate Gmail accounts for you and your husband. You dont' have the equibvalent that you do in Tesco (ie one domain and several accounts) unless you get a paid-for business-type Gmail account. Hope that makes sense? I also use Lightning (a Calendar manager) with my Thunderbird, and this is fab as I can manage lots of different calendars. This means I can have my own calendar, I have a technically separate calendar for family birthdays etc, and both my husband and I access this, and I have a work calendar. I can see them all in the same calendar view in Thunderbird.

I use a Google calendar as I have an HTC Magic smartphone, which runs on Android software, so it automatically synchs with the one on my compouer....very useful it is too! We all have seperate calendars, & I honestly don't know how I mangaed without them now Thanks for the info re Googlemail. I am going to rehash the 'puter next week, so will go to Thunderbird then I think

Old Speckled Hen
I have a mac address which is great but not free as well as googlemail and hotmail. Google has the greatest flexibility. I check my mail twice a day and having been away on holiday and from any internet presence for 10 days I came home to hundreds of messages, took a deep breath and deleted them all. If anything is important I'm sure they will be sent again. I feel strangely liberated by this action I actually couldn't bear the intrusion of frequent email alerts on my phone though I do understand the need if your business depends on constant communication. I have just come back from a trekking trip in the Moroccan mountains and there was a solicitor in the group forever tapping away on his phone as we walked. Well, only for the first day

Me neither, but himself needs it to check on orders he has placed for work & so forth. I am still dithering...but will sort out Firefox when I do my big overhaul sometime this week. Its way to sunny here to even think about doing it today I am posting this via my phone, from the garden, wathing the hens try to destroy my pea plants
