Best liner/ bedding for drop tray

I have just spent a lovely 21/2 hours in the blazing sun cleaning out the girls' runs. I pulled all the hemcore (I am SO happy with that stuff) into one pile and had a major poo pick. I've cleaned all the drinkers and feeders etc. etc.

 

When I was doing this, some damage was done to my borders - my newly established dianthus are now more as the little madams pulled the protective barriers away when they were FRing.

 

I've rearranged the feeding and drinking stations and the perches in the WIR and added a little swing. I put all the hemcore back and added a liberal sprinkle of louse powder.

 

What do they do when I put them into the runs? Have a humongous dust bath - kick hemcore OVER the kick boards, into the feeders and drinkers, somehow tip over the grit cup, pulled the shreaded paper out of the nest box (they have never done that before ) and Ada gets on the swing and decided she can't get down (she bokked for a full 5 mins before I had to lift her off).

 

So please tell me who exactly do we do all this for???

Madge even does dust batheing all majestically.

 

Battery on the camera went so I could not get Ada stuck on the swing.

I did - a short branch dangled on wire. It's only about 2' off the ground.

 

All three are OK having a good old nosey about 4'6" up on perches but a moving perch just off the ground...........

Lets face it Gelbel, would you dust bath in poo. They are clearly enjoying the cleaned hemcore. I think you all had a very good day. It is maddening when they chuck the contents of the run into the food and water though. Little minx.

Well obviously you are doing it for them! Who else? We don't own them you know, they own us, and everything we do is with their benefit in mind. When you plant something you are merely preparing their salad bowl!! I want to see the swing too

Just like kids, change the clothes or clean the carpet.................

 

They look like they are having fun though. Ours tried a swing, but thought it was just too much trouble to climb up 3" off the deck!

I've got a few perches up at about 4'6"/5' - they are always up there.
