Suzy J
I can not believe what I have just seen ........... my chickens out in the garden suddenly went to a gap in my fence which leads to a nursing home, a mouse dashes out of it and my amber star picks up the mouse as quick as lightening and swallows it whole...... I am worried now that its still wriggling...... wont this be a tad uncomfortable for her?? and to think I always chop up their food so small. both hens were actually hunting is this normal? chocchick
Yes it has been reported a few times on the forum. I saw one of mine with a mouse dangling from their mouth being chased by the others round the garden, but luckily didn't see it being swallowed. It's pretty vile when they look so cute, eat their mash/pellets and greens then suddenly hunt down animals Have you seen the froglu thread in the nesting box? Lindsay
Yes, I've seen my girls eating mice quite a few times .... including the swallowing thing ... gross isn't it?! In fact, my cats have been known to bring a mouse into the garden, drop it near the chicken run and then get very miffed when one of the girls runs off with it!! They're a bit like raptors aren't they! Scary!

Snowy
It's eating the eggs next day that makes me feel Especially when they've been gorging on slugs! Have to make a really conscious effort to NOT think about what they're eating!!
