hippy chick
What could cause my hens belly to go featherless and quite red and irritated looking. Her head is also bald and red. I have checked for lice and cannot see any. She has been wormed. She is still active and eating, drinking and laying.
Ain't Nobody Here
Sounds like someone's pulling her feathers out .
hippy chick
i don't think so, there are never any feathers in the coop on a morning. But tbh she did seem to get picked on quite a bit. Although the culprit died a week ago and she seems to be getting worse.I was wondering if it could be mites. What to you treat them with if they have mites or other creepy crawlies? hippy chick
I am still having problems with my scraggy hens. Their bellies aren't as red as they were, having dug up all of the plants that could be causing dermatitis. Their tail feathers have gone very thin with lots of barbs missing. I have treat them for lice and red mite. But I am at a loss as to what to do next. They have now stopped laying, but I don't know if this is just a coincidence as lots of other people are having a similar egg problem. The Dogmother
My first bit of advice would be to check them for lice, but when the weather gets warmer, a lot of hens will pull out their tummy feathers to keep cool. The skin underneath isn't used to being exposed to the light/air, so will look red and sore; I would recommend that you rub it with this cream to soothe the skin.
