Janepie33
I have just done something that I have always said that I won't do and that is to buy something from someone on the door step! I didn't need an ironing board cover, ladies gardening gloves or some micro cloths (£9.99 for 3) but I did buy some car interior cleaning wipes for £5. Why why why? Because I felt sorry for the young lad from Middlesbrough with a big big bag. A very polite ex offender who showed me his card (even I could have produced it, using a computer and a laminater!). I am now left with the feeling ........ Have I done a good deed of have I been done????? Suppose I'd better get out there and clean the interior of my car! Chucky Mama
I bought something from one of these guys on Friday strangely. I bought some oven gloves and some gardening gloves. I bartered with him and got the gloves free I needed some oven gloves and nearly bought some from Tescos the day before. I decided that he was very polite, trying to earn some cash lugging is dirty great bag around the village and that I would rather give him my cash than Tescos. Olly
I used to work in a solicitor's firm, and although I didn't do criminal work I knew the names of some of the regulars. One day I answered the door at home - in a town some miles away from the office - and recognised the name on the card as a genuine ex-offender. Yes, they could be dodgy but as Chucky Mama says, if they're lugging that big bag of stuff around then they deserve something. And yes, you probably did pay over the odds for what you bought, but consider it an act of charity.

If he's done you over, you've suffered nothing but a dent in your pride, but either way you've shown compassion. Self evidently, you've proven that compassion is more important to you than your pride. Good. There are more than enough proud people around. Alis girls
Probably told all his ex offender mates so you will be inundated with dogey little men with huge bags in the next few weeks - makes a change from the usual callers we get selling religion. Egluntyne
I usually fall for their patter too. I'd rather do a dodgy person a good turn and be slightly done over than turn a genuine person away.
patsylabrador
I used to be a soft touch until I said no thanks once because I didn't have any money available. He let out such a stream of disgusting language, and I mean really disgusting, calling me all sorts of names, that I have never bought, donated or anything at the front door since. It's a shame.
