Green stuff

Recommended Posts

Is there a general rule of thumb on how to serve up green leaves - cooked or uncooked? They've just devoured some 'raw' beetroot tops, but not much interested in cauli leaves. Should they have been cooked?

Also, when do people find their chucks engage in the laying business? Morning, afternoon or overnight. Is there a preferred time of delivery?

I only offer uncooked greens, they 'like what they like' - much to my disgust, my girls like to FR on my salad

leaves  sorrel is of particular interest at the mo (cooked stuff tends to attrack unwanted pests).

As for laying, my current band seem to have established a pre 7am, 9 ish and then whoever hasn't routine. But my previoius girla (no longer with us) would lay infrequently and at whatever time suited.

We give our chickens hung up, uncooked greens. The time of serving is not regulated.

And we currently receive 3 eggs in the morning, usually between 10 and 11am. Every now and then, one of the layers will lay a shell-less egg in the evening or a double yoked one in the morning.
